2021 Term 1, Week 8

Hello CFS Family

Clyde Fenton Primary School is

going through a major change

cycle. I have spoken of our goal of becoming a

Therapeutic School and this has resulted in a major

overhaul of all of our systems and processes. We are

having a good hard look at everything and if it is not

producing the results we want – out it goes!

Several parents have commented on the house point

system and what is happening with house points this

year. Well I’m pleased to be able to tell you that as

of this Friday, house points are back and in a new

and expanded form. Every week there will be inter-

house sporting competitions and we welcome

parents to drop in and watch the action every Friday

morning from 8:15am to 9:00am.

I thank all of you who got back to me with your

thoughts on our new school rules. One of the most

common threads in the feedback was “Why not just

have Rules 1, 2 and 3?” I fully agree with this

sentiment and indeed all rules have their roots in a

foundation rules, but we feel with specific matters

such as mobile phones in school, we need to give

explicit direction.

Some have suggested that we are changing too

much too quickly, but as a school we hold the view

that we didn’t make enough incremental changes

over the past few years and now we need to make

major changes to get back on the right track.

Change is a curious thing. People as a rule don’t like

to change once they have got into a routine and they

have become comfortable. Maslow once said “In any

given moment we have two options: to step forward

into growth or step back into safety.”

We are confidently stepping forward into growth

and we ask our families to stick with us on our

journey as we are seeing some great results already.

Parents have told me many times that the school is

much calmer, that the children seem more

industrious and that everyone seems just a little bit

happier.

But not everything is perfect and we frequently

reflect on our practice, analyse the data, and decide

“That didn’t work, let’s try something different!” If

you have ideas or concerns about things at the

school, it is your duty to bring them to my attention.

One of our new initiatives is the community school

we run each Friday in either Rockhole, Kalano or

Binjari. This is proving to be highly successful in

boosting our attendance and engaging with families.

We are running school in Binjari this Friday and we

look forward to meeting as many parents and family

as we can. Drop by for a cuppa and meet your child’s

teacher and see what we are doing at school. The

little ones are welcome as well.

Interim reports will be issued in week 10 to give you

a snapshot of your child’s progress to date. Please

make an appointment for a parent/teacher interview

if you wish to discuss the interim report with your

child’s teacher or with myself.

The CFS kids have been learning all about soil care and nutrition from the ground up. We are having great fun in the garden and all classes are very enthusiastic and proud of their work.

Students have been planting seeds, moving and preparing soil and mulch

and building shade houses for a Whopper season of vegetables.

All the students and are looking forward to cooking with what they grow.

Dave our Maintenance Officer has also been really busy getting the bore line fixed, so to improve the garden.

Everyone is really enjoying working with EON.

In week 7 students from year 4, 5 and 6 had

the opportunity to attend the touch football

carnival. We knew it would be a tough

competition against the other schools but the

students had practiced almost every morning

in PE to learn the rules and how to play.

CFS had two boys teams and two

girls teams. The competitions were

fast paced and tough, but all teams

came away with a few wins and a few

losses. Both CFS girls teams ended up

tied 4th place which was a great effort.

The students had improved so much from

the start of the year when the 5/6s

participated in touch football as part of

interschool sport. We were all ecstatic with

our wins and the effort put in by all students.
