Cobra-StretchA M P L I F I E D P U L S E D D Y E L A S E R S
The Cobra-Stretch from Spectra-Physics is an amplified pulsed dye laser system, Germanengineered by our partner firm Sirah GmbH for precision, stability and reliability. Featuresinclude integrated oscillator / pre-amplifier, quick change dye cuvettes, optional amplifier orFrequency Conversion Unit (FCU). The Cobra-Stretch systems optional amplifiers can beupgraded to the enhanced beam, high pump energy EBP cells. External wavelengthconversion units extend the tuning range from the deep UV to the near IR.
The Cobra-Stretch meets output energy needs up to 250 mJ. Based on a two stage design,the Cobra-Stretch can accommodate an extra amplifier stage to obtain higher energies or afrequency conversion unit to extend the range of attainable wavelengths, either of which isconveniently housed inside the main laser cabinet.
The Cobra-Stretch dye laser incorporates a grazing incidence resonator designed to utilizethe grating’s dispersion twice per oscillator round-trip, ensuring narrow linewidths with lowASE. An optional second grating can be added to the resonator for ultra narrow linewidthsbelow 0.03 cm-1 at 570 nm. The Cobra-Stretch resonator allows narrow line tuning over abroad tuning range without the need for an intra-cavity etalon, thus simplifying themeasurement process without sacrificing performance.
The Cobra-Stretch laser’s quartz dye cuvettes are held in place by state-of-the-art cellmounts manufactured for stability and precision from high performance alloys and graphite-reinforced polymers. Designed for extreme ease of use, the mounted cuvettes and the entiredye circulator unit can be removed in seconds without tools and without interrupting thedye flow loop. This design is ideal for applications that require more than one type of dye.The quick change from one dye defined wavelength range to another saves time andeliminates the need for messy dye changes.
Dye flow rates for the standard circulator and cell assemblies are high enough to work up to50 Hz with higher power pumps available for higher repetition rates. For additionalversatility, the Cobra-Stretch system’s circulators operate with polar and non-polar solvents,as well as solvents of varying viscosities.
Reliability is inherent in the Cobra-Stretch laser design. All oscillator components aremounted on a solid block of low thermal expansion stainless steel, mechanically andthermally isolated from the outer laser housing. By removing virtually all mechanical andthermal stress from the oscillator block and by using opto-mechanics optimized for easy andreproducible operation, the oscillator stage requires very limited user adjustment. Thismechanical stability results in a wavelength resettability for the oscillators of 11 µm
