“FIIB believes that its faculty is the most precious resource and a key to its success. FIIB’s faculty come from a wide range of backgrounds and expertise and are eager to share their knowledge and experience with both the business and academic communities. With active support from FIIB, they seek innovative means of creating and transmitting knowledge, and possess an extraordinary ability to effectively analyse and communicate complex issues following the well-known saying in management “practice theories and theorise practices” with and for business and industry. As an example, Prof Kalpana Chauhan of Marketing area visited Finland working with academics at the University of Tampere as well as visiting the Nokia head-office for studying their best practices. Prof Swanand Deodhar of Information Systems Management area is participating in an International Conference at Tunisia, Africa sharing his research on Open Source Software Hybrid Business Models. Dr. Sadia Samar Ali presented a paper in Hanover, Germany titled- A New Approach to Rework in Merge Production Systems. Such a global exposure to FIIB faculty has resulted in world-class research emanating from some of the FIIB faculty and getting published in top class research journals (such as Journal of Strategic Information Systems) for the first time as ‘an Indian Business School’s faculty members.”

12Deep Research and Outreach
The Centre for Service Innovation & Business Agility (CeSIBA) is an initiative of FIIB, established to ideate, design and nurture innovation in services, often with a view to improve business agility in public, private as well as social sectors. CeSIBA adopts a multidisciplinary perspective on the management of innovation. The Centre aims to increase the quality, efficiency and commercial success of innovation activities at leading Indian service providers and enhance the innovation capabilities of its business and academic partners.
FIIB aspires to remain on top of its activities in the areas of scholarship, teaching and research. Through its various Centers of Excellence, FIIB aims to provide a professional forum for exchange between the academic and corporate community; it identifies relevant challenges and opportunities, transforms them into relevant research themes; and implements best practices and/or facilitates design of ‘next’ practices.
The mandate of the Sustainability Development Centre (SDC) at FIIB is to undertake an intellectual capacity building exercise in the sustainable management and policy space using a mix of projects/research assignments, developing academic course materials, organizing seminars/workshops/other training opportunities, incubating and ideas and prototyping demonstration projects.
Teaching at FIIB is deep rooted in the practical methods of case teaching. A case discussion at FIIB is an interactive, iterative discussion of a business conflict, developed from real events, thus preparing students for the challenges they may face. Through thoughtful analysis and specific narratives the concepts as well as contents are taught effectively to brighten process skills and to develop competencies in critical situations. The purpose behind establishing FCRC is to create an intellectually-stimulating learning environment that motivates students to pursue and acquire interdisciplinary bodies of knowledge through case study discussion.
The Institute has its own journal, a multidisciplinary peer-reviewed business journal, which over the past 6 years of its published history has become a useful knowledge repository of original research based articles, perspectives, cases on topics of current concerns, and contemporary and classic books reviews. FIIB Business Review (FBR) aspires to be a ‘light house’ to many practitioners and business academicians, in their search for sound business solutions as well as business thought, amidst the turbulence of change in emergent business themes.
FIIB’s Executive Education programs are designed to provide today's professionals with innovative experiences to enhance abilities in facing a demanding, ever-changing workplace. Distinguished faculty and seasoned-practitioners deliver programs designed to increase the performance of both individuals and organizations. Whether it is an on-site delivered program, or a program delivered using our state-of-the-art facilities, FIIB’s MDP Cell brings business professionals educational experiences that impact their future.

Enabling Organizations To Excel Through Innovation
Digitalization has touched every aspect of life including the way business is done. Companies are embracing various digital platforms and tools to connect with their customers. Knowledge and skills to work with these tools is becoming indispensable. Keeping the tradition of adding innovative business practices and concepts in its curriculum, FIIB has started a unique course on Digital Marketing. After rounds of vetting from industry, we designed the digital marketing curriculum that equips the young managers to harness the power of digital marketing. Through classroom discussions, real-world case studies, team-based activities, and web-based tools, we focus on two key and interrelated disciplines: skill building and strategy development.
Gearing For The Digital Economy
Enabling the organizations to Excel through Innovation
An MDP on Innovation Excellence was conducted jointly by CeSIBA and INPAQT
(Netherlands). This four session Program was designed with a purpose to equip managers to
foster excellence through innovation in their respective organizations. The methodology
was a rich amalgamation of information sharing, experiential exercises and intellectual
stimulation activities; thereby equipping the participants to work successfully on future
innovation projects in their organizations. The program brought together the Innovation
Excellence expertise of INPAQT and the Open Service/Process Innovation expertise of
CeSIBA. The program saw participation from Halonix Ltd, B Braun Medical, Indian Railway
Institute of M & EE, EXL Services, Power Grid Corporation, Genex-Logistics, Shram Consulting
Pvt. Ltd, to name a few. The success of the program and extremely positive response from
the participants have paved way for many such initiatives in the coming months.
FIIB, with Global Mindset as one of its key pillars, encourages faculty and student
endeavors across borders. This Year Prof. KBC Saxena has taken a seminar course on
"Business Process Management in Smart Business Network Environment" at the University
of Tampere, Finland. He believes such endeavors have made him much more aware of
the differing needs of students across boundaries and appropriateness of the various
pedagogical approaches. He further adds that global exposure for management
faculty is an imperative given the dynamic nature of management as a field. Prof. KBC
Saxena has been involved in the co-supervision of two doctoral students from the
University of Tampere, Finland along with Prof. Pertti Jarvinen and Prof. Mikko Ruohonen
from the University. Prof. Saxena asserts that in a context where boundaries are history,
global exposure, as a means to develop wider and encompassing perspectives, is
indispensable. FIIB constantly builds global linkages through strengthening
collaborations with the Universities abroad for Teaching and Research.

16 FIIB Brand Definition and Learning Principles
Making of an FIIB manager entails much beyond classroom lessons. An FIIB leader steps out to explore what lies beyond the familiar, to develop a well-rounded perspective. This year young managers toured Europe. During the trip students were provided insights in the area of sustainability by faculty members from University of Ljubljana and Government of Slovenia including Dr. Lucka Bogataj, who shared 2007 Nobel Peace Prize as a member of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The sessions focused on issues such as climate change, environment management, and integrating sustainability with the business. Students also visited Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO); one of the constituent organizations of United Nations. Apart from formal sessions, students also interacted with locals and visited sites of historical importance including Roman Colosseum and Vatican City. During another trip to Finland, young managers visited three companies- Nokia at Salo, Metso Automation and Demola (an open innovation company). Students also attended various seminars at University of Tampere on topics like Open Innovation, Mass customization, Research Methods and Social Media.
FIIB-ians Spanning International Boundaries
The redrawn curriculum of FIIB is contemporary and futuristic in its design and delivery. Given their industry experience, the delivery of the specialized curriculum by the erudite faculty is unique and well rounded. The institute revises and upgrades its curriculum every year, to incorporate the ever-changing needs of the industry and business, in consultation with the faculty, practitioners and its alumni.
17
Application of Theoretical Concepts to Real-Life SituationThe overarching intent in design of the pedagogy is to introduce students to fundamental concepts and techniques in the classroom, provide ample opportunities for them to apply this learning using simulated real-life situations, and then reinforce the same through additional discussions, feedback sessions, live corporate projects and interactions with practicing industry leaders.
Academic RigorAt FIIB, learning is non-stop, intense and dynamic; through a fast paced and stimulating process, students are required to manage their own schedules between class time, team time, personal study time and the myriad of activities that are happening on an everyday basis at the campus.
Group Work and Presentations With the objective to develop collective decision-making, group responsibilities and persuasive communication skills, students are required to work in groups regularly and make presentations on assigned topics.
Problem Solving and Decision MakingAt FIIB, the case study method, complemented by role plays, management games, etc., is used in all courses to help build the students' skill to effectively diagnose situations and recommend solutions.
Continuous Evaluation and FeedbackCourse evaluations are designed such that there are on-going avenues for assessing the learning amongst the students and two-way, timely feedback is given for improvements. Besides, the faculty and the students work together as a team towards the overall improvement of both academic and non-academic affairs.
Integration of the Curriculum
Faculty collaborate regularly to develop joint courses to help students understand the linkages between the different functional areas and deal with the repercussions of decision making in one area on the other.
Global Learning
Recognizing the need for our future leaders to operate in a global setting, all our courses provide relevant multi-national inputs that help learn the best practices in differing socio, legal, cultural environments;
Outcome-Based LearningWhile designing courses and evaluation mechanisms, we start with a specification of what the students are expected to achieve by the end of the course. These learning outcomes may be of knowledge acquisition, mastery of skills or developments of attitude/ability. These are clearly specified in the course outlines and linked in a clear way to explicit assessment criteria by which they will be measured, thus leading to complete transparency between the instructor and students.
FIIB believes in education that is rooted in practice, a course on entrepreneurial innovation was a step in the direction to equip young budding entrepreneurs/managers with a know-how to manage innovation to survive in turbulent markets. The course was delivered jointly by FIIB faculty members with their Dutch counterparts from INPAQT. The Idea was to expose students to concepts of business model, innovation, and entrepreneurship, both theoretically and practically through a myriad of pedagogical techniques such as cases, computer simulation and group projects. FIIB believes that such endeavors will further strengthen the culture of entrepreneurship and spark innovation at FIIB.

VFTTLeadership Series
Integral to FIIB management program is View From The Top Leadership Series. This is a forum where distinguished speakers discuss their leadership style, personal vision, and strategies for success. A critical component of the FIIB MBA program, VFTT has been conceptualized to realize the FIIB vision – grooming leaders to embrace the dynamic world complex. FIIB’s approach has always been to induce interest in young managers through real-life experiences.
The FIIB Industry Interaction cell provides a common meeting point for the exchange of useful information by members of a common business community. Key feature of FII is that it offers a much needed interface with the corporates. FII time and again brings together groups for deliberations on relevant and current issues and practices.
Study AbroadTrips
A lot goes in developing a Global Manager. At FIIB in addition to globally attuned curricula and globally oriented faculty, focus is on exposing young managers to nuances of functioning in a global context. Study abroad trips are preceded with in depth orientation to the country to be visited, to the projects to be carried out, and aspects to be imbibed. These visits and projects are followed by in depth discussions on learnings in a guided classroom settings facilitated by the faculty. Students are evaluated on the projects and given feedback on the same.
SUMMER
Summer Internship Projects at FIIB have been conceptualized to give young managers an opportunity to learn the ropes of working in an organization. What differentiates summer projects at FIIB from those anywhere else is the rigor in design, process, evaluation & feedback, and guided learning and application that follows. The focus of these projects is manifold: getting hands on experience on routine functioning in an organization, acquainting with current industry practices, critically assessing these practices and thinking through possible alternatives.
Sankalp – the FIIB Employability Management Fest, is an intense program, entirely ideated by the FIIB faculty to train students to take the world head on, after their two year PGPM experience. Management contests designed aim at lending exposure to the competitive corporate world, where FIIB-ians need to deal with a dynamic group set up. Besides the several management contests like business quiz, data interpretation, creative games are also organized.
The only Management Institute in India to have realized the potential of Toastmasters benefits to the students. FIIB chartered 3 clubs in 2011 between April and June, with the aim of equipping a new generation of success-oriented individuals with the practical communication and leadership skills necessary to improve that confidence and achieve their goals. in the past one year, students have been recognised by Toastmasters International as Competent Communicators. Students have also won accolades in various speech contests with in a year of induction.
LeadershipProgram
The FIIB Leadership Program (FLP) is a unique blend of academic, leadership and career development opportunities specifically designed to guide the student toward lifelong professional success. It is in addition to the full-time academic requirements of the PGDM program, and includes optional coursework, senior business leader mentoring, specialized coaching and training blended in a defined course of progression that ensures well-rounded opportunities for student development and preparedness.
FIIB
FIIB-ians have a spectrum of talent that seeks expression and nurturance. To fuel creativity and channelize the creative energies FIIB has facilitated nine clubs; Finance Club-Fortune Stock Exchange, Marketing Club-Bazaar, Entrepreneurship Cell- Udaan, Human Capital Club- Cynergy, Sustainability Club- Jagriti, IT Club- Sigma, Strategy Club –Dominoes, The Toastmasters Club-Cue, Language Club- Prose, Dramatics Club-Oprah.
20Unique Beyond The Class-Room Activities
The FIIB Student Clubs
There is a famous saying at FIIB, ‘Management cannot be taught. It is practiced’. To the Faculty’s delight students at FIIB demonstrated laudable management acumen and commendable execution abilities in conceptualizing and successfully hosting Samavesh 2012, the annual intercollege Management Festival. The event comprised of 19 activities brought together by the six clubs and two committees of the institute. The events spanned sports to business, business games to creative endeavors; financial acumen to human resource expertize. The event was an exceptional display of leveraging technology to collaborate and coordinate; harnessing human resources for synergistic outcomes and optimizing resources to meet budgetary constraints.
In a way Samavesh, and all the surprises and exuberance it brings year after year, says a great deal about FIIB as an institution. Samavesh is about the vivacity that each FIIBian exudes, it is about the vitality that the budding managers add to every event they are a part of.
Sustainability, a key value that drives FIIB,was beautifully put to practice by FIIBians round the year through Jagriti, a student club that stands for social causes.
Round the year Jagriti worked in the direction of creating awareness and ensuring that the student fraternity at FIIB upholds the key value of sustainability. The club organized AIDS awareness programs, Blood Donation Camp, Save Electricity Campaign, Tree Plantation drives, Anti -Smoking Campaign round the year. The most fulfilling and impactful of the events has been when the young FIIBians hosted around sixty underprivileged children in the campus and ensured that every single one of them went back with smiles and memories to cherish.
The Club works with a mandate to make a difference in the society by garnering the energies and ideas of the student fraternity. The efforts so far have been fruitful as Jagriti was rated as the best club in the college with maximum membership.
“Live Your Passion” is the idea that the Entrepreneurship Club at FIIB champions. A student driven initiative, E
cell at FIIB works with a mandate to foster entrepreneurship amongst FIIBians and provides sponsorship to
promising entrepreneurs across the country. This year the student leaders conceptualized and realized, one
of the biggest Business Plan Competitions in the country, attracting participation from ace business schools
including IIMs and IITs. The winners of Meraki 2012 were awarded cash prizes worth two lakhs. The Business
Plans were evaluated by some of the most renowned venture capitalists in the country. With this event FIIB
Meraki-Live Your Passion Fellowship was established. The fellowship was bagged not by a team but by a
contestant from SNDT Women’s College, who came up with brilliant business plan to offer opportunities to
underprivileged/socially backward women. A unique initiative and an excellent platform for young
entrepreneurs, was how the event was described by the participants.

With the objective to provide an understanding of the credit structure of institutional finance in the area of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as the role of private equity to provide financial support to Indian enterprises, FSE organized a conclave. The each panel emphasized on “Opportunities And Challenges For Private Equity in India” as well as “Opportunities And Challenges For MSME Financing In India”. The speakers gave an in depth insight into the emerging private equity sector in India and the role of angel investing networks to get funds for startups. The panelists agreed that good due diligence, ability to be patient till one gets the right company and management of peaks and troughs in PE are core to success. In the MSME financing session the panelists explained how to raise finance for long term financial needs as well as for working capital needs. They also impressed the audience by explaining in detail about services provided by various types of financial institutions and availability of timely and adequate finance, at the right cost. The panelists also encouraged the audience to think big and to come out from their comfort zone to achieve success
An industry-Academia Session at FIIB focuses on the paradigm shift in the organizational environment entailing technological advancement, changing demographics, and revamped work values. The conclave was a fertile ground for thought provocation. Deliberations during the conclave highlited the emerging role of HR in ‘new-age’ organizations and the role that HR could play in the changing context. From these deliberations one could pick an emerging sense of identity, a much needed clarity of purpose, and most importantly, a view on the direction in which HR management is heading. Emerging paradigms acknowledge innovative HR management as indispensable. This was palpable in every speech and presentation during the conclave’s deliberations.
A unique conference, “Implementing Sustainability: From Board Room to Shop Floor”, organized at FIIIB through its Sustainability Development Center (SDC) witnessed eminent industry speakers and participants. Conference deliberations focused on alternate sources of power, challenges of harnessing these resources, managing cultures and innovation to make companies sensitive to Sustainability, while keeping inclusive growth in mind. Experts were optimistic about Sustainability as an emerging theme in India, given the awareness and commitment exhibited by the various societal constituents and leadership displayed by institutions like FIIB in this area.
