What we do

The Corrymeela Community is an ecumenical community encompassing all ages, backgrounds and traditions, committed to the healing of social, religious and political divisions in Northern Ireland and throughout the world.

Schools Programmesin action

EachschoolCorrymeelaworkswith has particular needs. Through discussions with teachers these varyingneedsareclarifiedandatailor-madeprogrammedesigned.Ourschools programmes usually include a varietyofdeliverymethods:

Corrymeela’sSchoolsProgrammesendeavourtocreatesafe spaces where children and young people from diverse backgrounds can meet and interact with each other in an atmosphere built around trust and acceptance. The initial process starts with discussions in the classroom where differences can be acknowledged, explored and accepted. For over forty years Corrymeela has been delivering schools programmes that understand the identity, uniqueness and personal value of each student. Topics explored work in tandem with Northern Ireland’s curriculum requirements.

Corrymeela facilitates and supports teachers with expert guidance for the delivery of thesetopicsandthemes,including:

TheCorrymeelaPrimarySchoolProgrammeshelptoimplementtheNorthernIrelandcurriculum,specificallyPersonalDevelopmentandMutualUnderstanding(PDMU).ThepurposeofPDMUistoprovideanopportunityforchildrenandteacherstogivespecificattentiontopersonalandemotionaldevelopment, health and safety, their relationships with others, and how to develop a greater understanding of their place in the community.
