A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGYThe engineering technology degree is the application of engineering principles and modern technology. This degree focuses on the planning, designing, fabrication, production, assembly, testing, and maintenance of products and services with computers and machines based on the theory and principles of science, engineering and technologies. Students are prepared to function as part of a team with the technical skills needed for critical and creative thinking through real-world problem solving and hands-on courses to meet many engineering technology challenges for 21st century.
Students learn to draw upon general engineering principles with backgrounds in management, leadership, and physical sciences to aid in interactions with engineers and technicians. Electronics and safety management are two of the optional concentrations for this degree.
REQUIREMENTSStudents may select an option for emphasis in either electronics, safety management or teaching.
Minors: Students are encouraged to select a minor to satisfy the 42 advanced-hour requirement. Suggested minors include any minor within the Department of Agricultural Sciences and Engineering Technology including design and development, construction management, electronics, safety management, agricultural engineering technology, interior design, and a trades and industry certification.

INTERNSHIPSInternships may be arranged through student contact with providers or through departmental faculty and staff announcements and postings. All internships must receive departmental approval through application prior to the initiation of the internship. Maximum credit for an internship is six credit hours.
SCHOLARSHIPSStudents may apply for engineering technology scholarships and non-degree specific scholarships by completing the Scholarships4Kats online application. Transfer scholarships are available for students who would like to continue their academic career at Sam Houston. SHSU provides a quality education at an affordable cost.
