CREATIVE WRITING:POETRY

Look at this pretty peacock…

Isn’t it amazing?

Look at it again. If it could speak, what do you

think it would say?Write it down.

Look at it again. How would you describe it?

Write down words and phrases.Don’t think too much, just write down

whatever comes into your mind as you look at it.

Now look again, but more closely.Pick one feather and focus on it.

What words and phrases come into your mind?Write them down.

The pretty bit on the feather of a peacock’s tail is called an ‘eye’.

If we rotate the picture, you can see why...

Look at it again. In what ways does it look like a human eye?

The peacock’s eye is a source of inspiration for designers.

Textiles…

Tablewear…

Jewellery…

and iPhone cases.

It has also inspired poetry…

In the Easter Concert, you are singing a poem about a peacock’s eye.

“ring of green”

“a look of violet”

“azure dye”

“the pupil!”

“like a bean”

“liquid”

Sound familiar?

Look at the words and phrases again. For each one, say which part of the feather is being

described.

“ring of green”

“a look of violet”

“azure dye”

“the pupil!”

“like a bean”

“liquid”

Look at the words and phrases again. Can you find any similes or metaphors?

Make a list of them.

SIMILES METAPHORS

Now write your own words and phrases. You could use similes and metaphors, too.

“_______________”

“______________”

“________”

“________!”

“_________”

“______”

Use your words and phrases to write your own poem called ‘The Peacock’s Eye’.

If it is really good, we might even sing it in the Easter Concert next year.

This is, however, highly unlikely.
