DESIGN FEATURES
Advanced Ball and Seat Technology
Application Service Conditions require various advanced ball and seat hardening technologies. Meeting torque requirements depends on ball seat relative hardness differential; as well as finished lapping interface. A High Velocity Oxy Fuel ( HVOF ) weld overlay system, applies high alloy powdered metal on pre-heated substrates of various materials.
Balls with Tungsten Carbide alloy spray welding, matched and lapped with Stellite seat faces, offer surface hardness to HRC 55-60 and heat resistance of 540C. Chromium Carbide is also available for elevated temperatures.

In the event of upstream seat leakage, pressure enters the
body and ball cavity. The “Self Relieving Seat Design” will allow the cavity pressure to be
internally relieved downstream if the downstream line pressure is less than the cavity pressure. In gas service, the valve will
require secondary sealant injection to provide a temporary seal.
Service Scenarios
In the event of upstream seat leakage with the
"Double Piston Effect" configuration, body cavity pressure will energize a
shuttle seal on the downstream seat. Thus, an imbalance of sealing area is created causing the
downstream seat to be energized onto the ball, thereby providing a secondary seal.

If the body cavity pressure begins to exceed the line
pressure (i.e. from thermal load), the “Double Piston Effect” configuration will
cause both seats to be energized against the ball, preventing pressure from being relieved internally to
the line. In gas service, compression of gas can occur in the valve cavity.In liquid service, body
cavity pressure needs to be relieved via an SRV to the exterior of the valve and ported back into the low
pressure side.
Service Scenarios
If the body cavity pressure begins to exceed line
pressure (i.e. from thermal load), the “Self Relieving Seat Design” will allow the pressure
to be relieved internally to the line.
