Thank you, Rotary members of Rotary International District 6820, for allowing me to
serve as District Governor. I certainly appreciate the dedication and personal sacrifices
of our Past District Governors and District Officers. They are the ones who have set the
standards for the rest of us to follow in leading this District.
We have always been a strong Rotary District and we, as Rotarians, have chartered new
and innovative local, community and international “Service Above Self “projects. As you
are aware, the Future Vision project from RI has altered some of our Ambassadorial
Scholar programs and the Group Study Exchange. However, we can and will commit to
assisting scholars in Rotary’s Six Avenues of Service through Global Grants and to support
our foreign visiting Rotarians and business leaders.
I believe, as your District Governor, that we must focus on assisting and encouraging our
local Rotary Clubs. If we are to grow members and community service, we must en-
courage our local Rotary club members. We need not forget to remind each other that
you and I became a Rotarian because some business man or woman recognized our
talents, our commitment to helping our community, and that Rotarian recommended us
for membership in an elite organization and we became “ Inter-national Citizens “ and
community leaders. We should all “Shake The Hand Of The Rotarian “ who “ asked “US” to
become a Rotarian!
We Rotarians will be able to create more opportunities for children projects, literacy,
clean water, local projects and membership growth by supporting our Rotary Car Tag
project. These funds will come to our district annually and will be used to benefit every
club in District 6820. Please go to www.rotary6820.org and purchase your Rotary Car
Tag today.
Our Rotary International theme for 2013-2014 is “ENGAGE ROTARY – CHANGE LIVES “.
Rotary International President, Ron D. Burton, has invited every district and Rotary
member to commit to “Write the Story of Rotary , again, and again, together .” As
Rotarians, we do Change Lives, but, we must be ENGAGED, in our community and in
our world.
My effort on behalf of Rotary is not in numbers of members, but in quality of members:
people of integrity; men and women who have a vision to better the lives of others
through “Service Above Self “. Don’t forget…”SHAKE THE HAND OF THE ROTARIAN WHO
ASKED “ YOU “ TO BECOME A ROTARIAN “. He or she really helped change YOUR life.
34,558 Clubs….1,222,115 Members…350 Nations ---- You are an International Citizen.

Until 1956, the State of MS was divided in two parts. The southern part was in the District with
Louisiana to the south and west and the northern part was in the District with Tennessee to the
north. Past District Governors from current District 6820 who served the District in the north
(6800), or the District in the south and west (6840) are also listed. On July 1, 1956, the current
boundaries of District 6820 were established and we have had our own District Governors since
that time. 16 25

THE RUTH & KEITH REMY YOUTH AFFAIRS AWARD
This award is given to the club recognized by the DG as the club having an
out-standing program for you during the year.
FOUNDATION DISTRICT SERVICE AWARD
Because so many Rotarians serve humanity through Foundation Programs,
The Rotary Foundation created the District Service Award to recognize their
efforts. Each recipient is given a certificate, awarded at the District level.
THE CLUBS OF THE YEAR AWARDS
Three clubs – one large, medium and small are selected by the Awards
Committee for presentation at the District Conference. Also, one club will
receive the “Governors Award” given annually to the overall best club in the
district. It is suggested that a criteria be established at the beginning of the
Rotary year to judge the clubs for their participation in programs, presence
at district meetings and functions, and achievement of their club goals.

Calendar 2013 - 2014
Our district foundation, currently known as the 6820 Foundation, was
started during the 1940’s. Its general purpose is to provide financial
