NEW DELHI, Jan 19:

India and China have estab-lished mechanisms which theyuse to resolve any "misunder-standing", the External AffairsMinistry said today and assertedthat it was keeping a "constantvigil" on the situation in Doklam.

Responding to questions onreports of Chinese militarybuildup in the area close to lastyear's stand-off site, ExternalAffairs Ministry spokespersonRaveesh Kumar referred to theMinistry's reaction yesterdaythat "the status quo at the face-off site has not been altered. Anysuggestion to the contrary isinaccurate and mischievous."

"We are of course keeping aconstant vigil on developmentswhich have a bearing on India'snational security and take allnecessary steps to safeguard it.The two sides do have, and haveused established mechanisms toresolve any misunderstanding,"Kumar said.

The spokesperson also refusedto comment on the Army chief'sremarks. The Army chief had said

that Chinese have carried outsome "temporary" infrastructuredevelopment in the area.

Earlier in Beijing, China justi-fied its massive constructionactivities in the Doklam area, describing it as "legitimate" andwhich were aimed at improvingthe lives of its troops and the peo-ple living on its own territory.

Chinese Foreign Ministryspokesman Lu Kang's also said,"China's position on theDonglong (Doklam) area is quite

clear. Donglong always belongedto China and always underChina's effective jurisdiction. There is no dispute in this regard."

Lu made these comments inresponse to reports that it wasbuilding a huge military com-plex close to the site of theDoklam standoff.
