Cell Analogies

Analogies are used to clarify our understanding of something that is more difficult to understand by using something familiar.

Cell Membrane

Cell Membrane• The cell membrane is like a chain-link fence

patrolled by security guards.

• Some materials are able to pass through the fence (air, bugs, water) without the guard’s assistance or even their knowledge.

• Other things are allowed to pass through the gate after “permission” is granted by the guards.

• Still, other items are carried into the cell by the guards.

• Other things are not allowed in the cell at all.
