GUESTS at Beaudesert Zonta'sInternational 'Women's Day lunchwere treated to a special presenta-tion by one of Queensland's mostrespected and prominent business-women.

Brisbane's first and only femalelord mayor Sallyanne Atkinson AO,kept the 82 strong crowd enthralledwith details of her life in the spot-light.

Ms Atkinson, who said she washonoured to be the chosen speakerfor the day, spoke about her journeyon developing a career in a maledominated industry.

Throughout the years Ms Atkinsonhas taken on several differen( rolesincluding as Australian TradetQom-missioner to France, Australia*s'rep-resentative to the International Cham-ber ol Commerce, and representativeof the Australian Olympic Commit-tee.

During her career she also juggled

marriage and motherhood, responsi-bilities most women today face, shesaid. Zonta president Alice Warbysaid the club was thrilled to have suchan acco4plished woman address thecrowd. i

The luirch was mainly made up ofwomen with two men adding to thecrowd, Ms Warby said, and was beau-tifully decorated with purple, the offi-cial colour of Intemational Women'sDay.

International Women's Day, whichis observed on March 8 each year,seeks to celebrate women and raiseawareness of the political and socialstruggles women face worldwide.

This year Zonta plans to continuemaking breast cushions for womenwho have undergone breast surgery aswell as bimhing kits for women inthird world countries.

The group will also continue tosupport girls at Beaudesert StateSchool as well as the high school.

Zonta is a worldwide organisationthat aims to promote the status ofwomen through service and advocacy.
