A Reading from the Letter to the Hebrews (1,1-12) Your blessings Father
Brothers and sisters, In times past, God spoke in partial and various ways to ourancestors through the prophets; in these last days, he spoke to us through a son, whom he made heir of all things and through whom he created the universe, who is therefulgence of his glory, the very imprint of his being, and who sustains all things by hismighty word. When he had accomplished purification from sins, he took his seat at theright hand of the Majesty on high, as far superior to the angels as the name he hasinherited is more excellent than theirs. For to which of the angels did God ever say: "Youare my son; this day I have begotten you"? Or again: "I will be a father to him, and heshall be a son to me"? And again, when he leads the first-born into the world, he says:"Let all the angels of God worship him." Of the angels he says: "He makes his angelswinds and his ministers a fiery flame"; but of the Son: "Your throne, O God, standsforever and ever; and a righteous scepter is the scepter of your kingdom. You lovedjustice and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, anointed you with the oil ofgladness above your companions"; and: "At the beginning, O Lord, you established theearth, and the heavens are the works of your hands. They will perish, but you remain;and they will all grow old like a garment. You will roll them up like a cloak, and like agarment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end."Praise be to God always.

Gospel: Luke (2:1-20)
In those days a decree went out fromCaesar Augustus that the whole worldshould be enrolled. This was the firstenrollment, when Quirinius was governorof Syria. So all went to be enrolled, eachto his own town. And Joseph too wentup from Galilee from the town ofNazareth to Judea, to the city of Davidthat is called Bethlehem, because hewas of the house and family of David, tobe enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While they werethere, the time came for her to have herchild, and she gave birth to her firstbornson. She wrapped him in swaddlingclothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them inthe inn. Now there were shepherds inthat region living in the fields andkeeping the night watch over their flock. The angel of the Lord appeared to themand the glory of the Lord shone aroundthem, and they were struck with greatfear. The angel said to them, "Do not beafraid; for behold, I proclaim to yougood news of great joy that will be for allthe people. For today in the city of Davida savior has been born for you who isMessiah and Lord. And this will be a signfor you: you will find an infant wrapped inswaddling clothes and lying in amanger."" And suddenly there was amultitude of the heavenly host with theangel, praising God and saying: "Glory toGod in the highest and on earth peaceto those on whom his favor rests."When the angels went away from themto heaven, the shepherds said to oneanother, "Let us go, then, to Bethlehemto see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us."So they went in haste and found Maryand Joseph, and the infant lying in themanger. When they saw this, they madeknown the message that had been toldthem about this child. All who heard itwere amazed by what had been toldthem by the shepherds. And Mary keptall these things, reflecting on them in herheart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all theyhad heard and seen, just as it had beentold to them. This is the truth. Peacebe with you.
