‘Save the Tigers’ Campaign

The „TIGERS‟ are monumental-sized public sculptures created by use of 100%

recyclable materials by internationally renowned architectural firm LAVA

(Laboratory for Visionary Architecture) to draw attention to the endangerment

of tigers around the world, with less than 3200 tigers remaining in the wild.

The DIGITAL ORIGAMI TIGERS have exhibited at city promotions, fashion

shows, and commerce promotions in Europe and Asia.

The TIGERS will arrive in the San Francisco, U.S.A.

port on Dec 13th, 2010.

The crouching digital tigers combine ancient lantern making methods with cutting edge

digital design and fabrication technology, bringing east and west together through tradi-

tion and innovation.

The tigers are inspired by “zhezhi”, a Chinese term for paper folding, more popularly

known by its Japanese name “origami”. Traditional Chinese lantern makers in Sichuan

province, where lantern making has been taking place for over 800 years and local arti-

sans were consulted.
