BIC Electric 2004:
• Choosing location Szczecin - West Pomerania • Based on feasibility study - the long way around (Demex electric 2002)
• Not much help to get – no one spoke English
• Very complicated administrative procedures • Difficult to find help
• No help from authorities
Now:
• Many choose location based on knowledge from network
• Different administrative procedures (than in Denmark) • Easy to find help and get assistance
• Fine professional help from authorities (better than in Denmark)
• Good Danish network in North-Western Poland
Development in Poland
Infrastructure:
• 8 hours between borders 5 hours between borders
• A looong time in a truck 10 hours from Jutland – cheaper then internal transport in Denmark
• Good ferry connections still good ferry connections – even better when the Femern connection comes
• Poor plane connections still poor connections to Goleniow, but from Berlin to the world
• Very bad roads in Poland highways between major cities

A few experiences with cultural differences
• Money as a motivational factor

• Belief in authority – titles and material goods matters
• Status symbols matter in the hierarchy – e.g. managers must have a company car
• Ambitious female managers • In BIC Group: Office staff: PL: 6 women + 2 men /DK: 3 women + 2 men
• Differences – maybe not that big differences…
