strange odor in any room?

When you smell a strange odor from any room where there is a drain , the first thing I would check is to make sure that the trap is not dry!

If a drain tap is dry , the sewer gas can escape and can be the cause of the smell.

Here the water is held in place by granity to act as a barrier, preventing the escape of sewer gases , if a plumping fixture is not used over a month or so , the water in the trap will evaporate , allowing noxious odor to escape.
