Phase II Year One

Former members of PLC leadership team conducted a district survey on MyLearningPlan questioning teachers about BIT.

The survey demonstrated the need for teacher training in BIT and inquiry based learning.

Phase II (Year One)

Former Leadership Team conducted an inquiry v. non-inquiry workshop with 60 K-12 math and science teachers.

Summer 2010, Fall 2010

• Approx. 40 science and math teachers K-12 attended workshop

• Educated teachers on the importance of collaboration/joining and becoming part of a PLC for student achievement

• Time as a leadership team to grow

• As a result of Collaboration to the Max workshop teachers indicated desire to become part of an ongoing PLC

• Looked more closely at district and teacher needs

• Book study: Team to Teach • Organization• Set norms• Established roles• Schedule/Calendar of meetings

Jean Kutcher assisted us with resources that included videos of PLCs/Critical Friends groups from the Annenburg Institute.

Introduced to Tuning Protocol for analyzing student work

Our focus shifted from analyzing our own student work to focusing on developing building level PLCs.

Presently, we are presenting a EW Summer Institute. We have developed our workshop to be presented on July 18th to approximately 30 teachers.

Summer InstitutePLC building level members will:• Make connections between big ideas using

Science atlas.• Establish norms and routines for future

meetings.• Receive introduction to tuning protocol• View video on analyzing student work

• Participants in summer institute will form their own building PLCs.

• Leadership team members will oversee and support their learning process.

• Building level PLCs will focus on BIT thinking and analyzing student work.

Planning a follow up workshop with all building level PLCs for November

Turnkey the process of understanding BIT to building level PLCs

Submission of building level PLCs minutes/reflections after each meeting.

Leadership team will evaluate and review the outcomes of these minutes.

Follow up survey on My LearningPlan to assess teacher understanding of BIT in district

Supporting the PLCs in the district. Retention of participants in the building

level PLCs.
