Certain types of fish have more chemicals in their bodies. People should be careful eating fish like carp and eel

because they are fatty and live a long time. Chemicals like PCBs stay in their fat and build up over time.

Food Chain

Contaminants settle in the river sediments and build up in bottom-

dwelling organisms like zebra mussels. As each fish gets eaten by a bigger

one, the contaminants add up.
