surgery is exhibited a large card as follows :-" Midwifery attendedby Miss -, L.A., &c. Fee 10/6."

I am, Sirs, yours faithfully,A STRUGGLING PRACTITIONER.

"* We have frequently pointed out that, to some extent, the MidwivesAct legitimises for women the post of unqualified assistants, a postwhich the General Medical Council has decided to suppress in respectof men. As a certificated midwife Miss -’s duties are defined (moreor less) by law and if she goes outside them she can be reported tothe Midwives Board. As a surgery attendant and dispenser she canassist her employer as long as she acts under his supervision, butif, being unqualified, she visits patients independently and prescribesfor them her employer can be punished by the General MedicalCouncil-ED. L.

A. B. C.-We have seen that paragraph about the hospital dance, thekind-hearted constable, and the titled surgeon many times before. Its details are apt to vary, but the constable is always kind-heartedand the surgeon is always titled, the adjectives in some way or otherbeing supposed to add to the horror of the yarn. That " the factsare too circumstantial to be disputed " is the most silly assertion ofall. Nothing less circumstantial has ever gone the rounds of a

credulous press.Anon.-Will our anonymous correspondent who sent us a bill fromMorecambe communicate with us (giving his name). We cannotcomment upon the matter unless we know what actually happened. The bill only states what is going to happen.

Inquirens.-We have no information to give on the matter of thestudy of medical electricity apart from study for the medical

profession.R. P.-The man is only the usual mendacious quack.
