Historical Moments• 1379-1619: Graz’s strategic

location between the Alps and the Hungarian plains made it the seat of the Hapsburgs, one of Europe’s longest ruling dynasties

• 1809. Napoleon dismantles the city fortress. Only the clock tower remains from this former Hapsburg stronghold.

• Since 1999 a World Cultural Heritage Site

• 2002: Graz’s Ökodrive project awarded the Climate Star, a European Prize for pioneers in environmental technology.

• 2003: Graz named Cultural Capital of Europe

The 47-meter steel shell was designed by New York City artist Vito Reconci to be indestructible even by a flood.

It was built to welcome visitors to the European culture capital of 2003.

Mein Rezept: Kürbiskernbrot

• 800 g wheat flour800 g rye flour40 g yeast100 g roasted pumpkin seeds1.5 l waterSalt

Instructions:

 Knead rye flour, wheat flour, yeast, salt and water into a soft dough. Fold in roasted pumpkin seeds and let rise for 30 minutes.Bake at 220° C for about 1 hour. Let cool on wire rack.
