2018 Calendar of training activities 3
FOREWORD SECRETARY GENERALWith great pleasure, I hereby present the calendar of
seminars developed by the European Judicial Training
Network (EJTN) for 2018.
The EJTN is the principal platform and promoter for the
training and exchange of knowledge of the European
judiciary, with the goal of fostering a common legal and
judicial European culture. EJTN represents the interests of
over 120,000 European judges, prosecutors and judicial
trainers from across Europe and its fields of interest include
EU, civil, criminal and commercial law, and linguistics and
societal issues training.
EJTN’s activities are the outcome of cumulative efforts
of EJTN Members, encompassing 37 national training
institutions from all 28 EU Member States, with the goal of
forming a European area of Justice. These efforts include,
but are not limited to, identifying training needs, designing
training events, identifying experts, and hosting events.
They aim not only to increase participants’ knowledge and/
or skills but also to widen inter-community perspectives.
Participation fosters the growth of trust between judges
and prosecutors of different EU Member States, improves
their linguistic capacity, and assists in the building of
personal networks.
EJTN’s programmes and activities are built on an extensive
training needs’ analysis. These needs are expressed by
EJTN Members within the structure of the EJTN Working
Group Programmes and its 5 Sub-working Groups,
by participants of EJTN activities, numerous partner
organisations, including judicial networks and associations,
as well as the European institutions and EU Council
Presidencies.
For concise information on how, when and where to apply,
please follow the instructions below. I encourage everyone
to take part in the presented seminars and disseminate
information on EJTN training opportunities. I also sincerely
invite you to take part in the flagship activity of the EJTN,
its Exchange Programme and e-training offers. Please use
our database of materials and resources, which are all
described in this publication.
Finally, I would like to express thanks to the European
Commission for its financial support, the EJTN Secretariat
for managing presented activities, and to the EJTN
Members for their dedication and commitment.

DELIVERING THE BEST IN JUDICIAL TRAINING AND RESOURCES
As the principal platform and promoter for the training and
exchange of knowledge of the European judiciary, EJTN
works together with its Members, Observers, Partners and
other stakeholders to deliver a rich array of judicial training
opportunities and judicial training resources to Europe’s
judiciary.
APPLYING FOR EJTN TRAINING
EJTN offers an incredibly wide array of options for
building knowledge and skills, from the celebrated EJTN
Exchange Programme to EJTN’s training seminars as well
as supporting resources. Spanning all topics of law, across
Europe, throughout the year and for initial or continuous
learning, EJTN’s training offering is unmatched.
Applying for the EJTN Exchange Programme
The flagship experience is the EJTN Exchange Programme,
which offers Europe’s judiciary short- and long-term
exchanges, exchanges for future and newly-appointed
judiciary as well as study visits to EU institutions.
Applying for EJTN’s Exchange Programme is easy:
1. Look for the application period to open in the late autumn of each year – EJTN’s website and social media sites as well as EJTN Member institutions across Europe communicate the opening.
2. Apply for the desired programme online with EJTN’s handy online application portal.
3. Watch for an email notification in your inbox of your selection.
4. Once selected, return to the online application portal to complete your personal registration details.
5. After your exchange, return to the online application portal to complete your feedback form and expense claim as well as receive a participation certificate.
Applying for EJTN’s training seminars
EJTN also offers a whole host of training seminars,
covering the widest possible range of judicial topics. Taught
by foremost experts and offering a practical, hands-on
approach, EJTN’s training seminars help equip Europe’s
judiciary with needed knowledge and skills.
Applying for EJTN’s training seminars is easy:
1. Consult EJTN’s online database for a full listing of all training seminars: http://www.ejtn.eu/Catalogue/EJTNs-searchable-database/

2018 Calendar of training activities 5
Convenience with online portals
Similar to the Exchange Programme application portal,
EJTN will shortly feature an online processing portal for
applications to EJTN’s training seminars. The Online System
for Applicants (OSP) is a state-of-the art system for use
by EJTN as well as EJTN’s partner organisations across
Europe for managing the many thousands of EJTN seminar
candidates and participants.
Participants to seminars will use the system for registration
of personal details and preferences as well as for
completing post-event travel reimbursement claims, quality
surveys and completion certification.

2018 Calendar of training activities 21
In its drive to adopt the best of modern learning
technology and to tailor judicial training to today’s
environment, EJTN’s virtual learning package encompasses
both blended and eLearning components.
Blended learning
EJTN’s blended learning modules successfully
combine the best elements of virtual and
traditional classroom-based learning.
Several of EJTN’s training seminars feature pre-
classroom self-study components, which are
to be completed by participants online before
the classroom study commences. Designed to
maximise learner engagement and interaction,
these activity-rich modules allow participants to
come fully prepared to the classroom.
With the help of expert virtual learning
consultants, EJTN has prepared blended learning
modules for training seminars within its linguistics
criminal justice portfolios.
