Businessline, in association with Europe Direct of Wrexham County
Borough Council, are delighted to present the following programme of
events, taking place between 3rd and 7th October in Wrexham, to
celebrate European SME Week - a campaign which promotes
enterprise across Europe.
Last year, 1,500 events were held throughout Europe with the
fundamental aim of enabling existing businesses to share their
experience and to develop themselves further. All seminars,
workshops and presentations are open to all businesses, individuals
aiming to start their own enterprise along with students with a business
interest. Events are sure to prove a great opportunity for local
businesspeople to network, exchange ideas and learn new skills. We
very much hope that the events will provide you with new ideas,
knowledge, inspiration and motivation that you will be able to
implement into your business.
The large majority of events are free of charge to attend, however
spaces on seminars are limited and so reserving your place in advance
is essential. To avoid the disappointment of missing out we would very
much encourage you to reserve your place on any seminars of interest
as soon as you can if you are committed to attend.

Good health improves an individual’s quality of life, and a focus on their well-being can also add value to organisations by promoting better health and increasing motivation and engagement of employees, in turn helping to drive increases in productivity and profitability. In other words the benefits of health and well-being extend far beyond avoiding or reducing the costs of absence or poor performance. But this requires a changed perception of health and well-being, and a willingness from both employers and employees to invest resources and change behaviour.
Not just health and safety but also health and well-being All organisations must ensure compliance with health and safety and other relevant employment law, through good health and safety management, prevention, and reducing exposure to risk. This will undoubtedly help to save costs and prevent ill-health and accidents. However, in order to realise the potential added value of raised productivity, organisations will need to extend their agenda to health and well-being. Yes smaller organisations can implement health and well-being initiatives. There is little cost in promoting schemes to encourage active travel to work, ensuring sickness-absence management policies are set and adhered to, and providing advice and guidance on healthy working and living to their own staff.

Creative Problem Solving
6:30pm - 8:30pm | Wrexham Library | Free Event
Ever wondered why it is that the same old problems keep cropping up and refuse to go away. It may be that you have not given them the time or imagination needed to solve them for good. Find out how to solve business problems and implement them effectively for long term results.
This workshop highlights the crucial steps needed to solve business problems and improve business performance. During the workshop you will be encouraged to think about a problem that prevents your business from moving forward and share that problem with others in a structured, yet creative way, to identify potential solutions and agree upon future actions.
Once you begin to solve problems creatively, you begin to solve the root causes rather than merely responding to adverse effects, and the problem then disappears forever. Creative problem solving is not an elusive skill possessed by the few, it is more about taking a step back and adopting a different state of mind.
During the workshop we will cover the following areas:
• Differences between creativity and innovation.
• Generation of ideas and solutions.
• Testing and evaluating ideas.
• Developing and embedding solutions.
Join this event for an informal and lively experience in creative problem solving for
the open minded! You will also gain further information about the LMW project and
ways to gain valuable information, attend future events and take advantage of
services available.

Organisations need to recognise that leadership talent cannot be funnelled into a single model of leadership but needs to include a focus on Leaders of Expertise as well as Leaders of People.
For most organisations career and talent management is based on an assumption that leadership is about managing people. Quite often talented individuals are promoted to a leadership role because of their capability in their field of expertise. The unintended consequence is the Leader is left unable to perform effectively despite being put on training course after training course to learn people skills. The Leader of Expertise finds that people management takes up too much of their time so they have less time to focus on what they are good at, and their expertise is lost from the business. At the same time the people they lead are unable to perform effectively.
The key learning points from this workshop will be:
• The difference between Leaders of Expertise and Leaders of People
• The importance of recognising and developing career maps for Leaders of Expertise
• How to introduce Development Plans and Performance Measures for Leaders of Expertise.
• The organisational benefits of promoting Leaders of Expertise to key strategic positions

‘Your Brand as your Value Proposition' will enable you to identify
your customer proposition and express it as a brand and create a
focussed, differentiated brand position.
Specifically, in an interactive and highly visual format, the module looks
at:
• The need for emotional connection ahead of rational connection.
“A brand is not about purchases, it’s about a relationship; the
latter drives the former.”
• The need for intense focus and sacrifice; the ability to express
the emotional values you deliver to your customers in no more
than three words. “The Power of 3”
• A toolkit of basic rules for developing an integrated branding
approach. “It only works when it all works.”
Chris’s presentation is sure to provide you with a host of new ideas,
knowledge, inspiration and motivation that you will be able to
implement into your business.
After the Keynote presentation a number of free prize draws will take
place before lunch, please see the following two pages for details of
