Foreword“What is YOUR favorite hymn?” I am often asked that

question. My answer is occasionally vague, because I count

many hymns as my “favorites.” In putting together this col-

lection, I am trying to give a more definitive answer. At the

very least, I can say, ALL of these hymns are the most

favored among my favorites.

However, one hymn in particular stands out — that is

“When Morning Gilds the Skies.” Most mornings when I sit

down at the piano to write, I play through several stanzas of

that hymn. It isn’t just the tune that attracts me; the text

stands as my credo for all the music writing I do: “May Jesus

Christ be praised!”

Hopefully, as you consider this collection you will find

one or more of these hymns to be YOUR favorites, and that

you will look forward to sharing them with your congrega-

tion.
