In the church, the organ is much more than justa musical instrument. It’s a voice that provides arichness of sound that makes praise and worshipmusic spiritually persuading.

On Sunday, Oct. 26, First Baptist Church ofHuntsville will host a free dedicatory recital inthe sanctuary at 2 p.m., followed by a receptionin the church’s parlor.

“I love Sunday morning music,” First Baptistmember Carolyn Gaines said. “This organ cer-tainly adds a reverence and calm to the soul thatprepares the heart to hear what God has to offer.”

The newly restored Austin Opus 1544 pipeorgan was built in 1929 for the First Church ofChrist Scientist of Glencoe, Illinois. In 2009, thechurch in Illinois was sold to a KoreanPresbyterian congregation who wanted to use thebalcony space.

After a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday thatTexas’ voter ID law will remain in effect for theNovember election, the state announced on thesame day that it will resume providing a free formof identification.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is nowissuing Election Identification Certificates (EIC)for registered voters who do not have one of theacceptable forms of photo ID to cast a ballot onNov. 4 or during early voting, which runs Oct. 20-31.

Residents who have the following form of ID donot need an EIC: Texas driver license; Texas per-sonal identification card; U.S. passport book orcard; Texas concealed handgun license; U.S.Military identification with photo; and U.S. citizen-ship certificate or certificate of naturalization withphoto.

HISD studentpulled from buswith BB gun

Huntsville ISD reports that an elementary studentbrought an Airsoft BB gun with a supply of plasticBBs to school Wednesday.

The student displayed the gun on the bus and dis-charged an orange plastic BB during the morningroute to the loading dock. Another student reportedthe incident to the bus driver and the transportationstaff immediately addressed the issue.

The parents were contacted and appropriate disci-plinary action was taken.

No one was injured in the incident. HISD remindsall students and families that all campuses and facil-ities are weapon free zones. The HISD administra-tion requests assistance from all parents orguardians to help ensure that children do not bringany real or toy weapons, or any other item that couldbe construed as a weapon into school zones, cam-

United Way toannounce $50Kgoal in nextcampaign cycle

It’s time to raise some funds.The United Way of the Piney Woods will

announce its goal of $50,000 for the nextyear at a kickoff event this morning at 10.

UWPW director Sheila Cannon said thegoal is based on many factors and is set bythe governance committee. Next year’s goalis a little more than twice the goal of$24,000 from the previous two years.

“Right now, not a lot of agencies can fundlocal programs,” Cannon said Wednesday.“It’s hard to keep summer programs going… so they’re always looking for more fund-ing.”
