roomatC.V.• DirectorWoodruff–IsawonFacebookthatHeidiHopkinswas
workingonthisroomandneededsomehelp.Sheisteachingkidsintentionandbeingpurposefulwiththeiractionsandwantedtodoamuralinwhatwasthedetentionroom.Theyhadwallpapertypehangingsofforest,sunsetsandshiplapandtheideawastomakeitanintentionroom.
• DirectorMock–GotacopyofaletterfromprincipalofDundee,Mr.Langdon,anditwasdescribinghowtohandledisciplineissuesandcooperativedecision-making,helpingstudenthandlestress.Iwasveryimpressedwiththecontentandtheletterwasveryhelpful.
• ChairThomaswenttotheMLKeventattheCulturalCenter.Itwasagreatceremony.Itseemedthateveryoneintheroomasengagedandenjoyingtheevent.
b. SuperintendentComments• ThankyoutoCVandtheirteamforsharingtheir21stCenturylearningand
it’sexcitingtoseethestudentsgettingexcitedaboutthelearning.• IwouldliketorecognizeFer,shewasarepresentativeintheschedule
committeeandhervoicewasheardandwasappreciatedinthatsetting.• Overthepastweektheco-chairsreleasedtheirbudgetanditislessthan
governorsproposedbudget.GiventhatourPERSincreasethisyearis$1.8millionandrollupcostsare$1.45million.Itwouldlooklikewecouldbeabout$750,000short.IhavestartedengagingintalkswithMrs.GardnerandMr.Parker.Wearelookingatwayswecansaveandwherewecancut.Ihavecontinuedmeetingswithlegislaturetomakesurethattheycanseethatwith3yearsofstablefundingthestrideswehavebeenabletomakeandpresentingthemwiththatdata.Togobackwardisnotacceptable.Iampushingalotharderthaninthepast.
• Tonightyouwillbeaskedtotakeactiononalightcalendar.Itdoesn’tcontainconferencedaysorteacherworkdaysrightnow.Itdidn’tmakesenseasthesecondaryteamiscontinuingtheirworkcreatingamasterschedule.
• Incrediblyhopefulthatwearedonewithweatherthisschoolyear.Wearewithin3hoursofreachingthestateslimitofinstructiontime.Atthistimewewillnothavetomakeupanydays.
• Potentiallyaonetimeimplementofa14hoursofinclementweathertimecouldbereinstatedforthe2016-17schoolyear.Wewillkeepaneyeonwhatthestatedecides.
• HopingatCOSAwewilllearnmoreaboutthestatebudgetandanyinclementweatherdecisionsfromtheOregonDepartmentofEducation.
c. StudentRepresentativeComments–Victoria–Iamontheequestrianteam.WewereinAlbanyforacompetitionandNewbergdidgreat.Wewereinthetop10inalotofcategories.ThenextmeetisinMarch.ThedateschangedbutIwillletyouknow.
d. Dr.LeBlanc-Esparza-ChamberdinnerMarch17thattheCulturalCenter,oneofthepeoplethatwearehonoringisintheaudiencetoday–Emily.WearealsohonoringNewbergChristianChurch–fortheirMyZoneprogram.

a. Approve2017-18&2018-19SchoolCalendars–HandoutDirectorPetersonaskedthatweputthisonthetableuntilwecangetthecorrecthandoutstoreview.

• ChairThomasonthesummarypagethe189%?-Gwen–thatisactuallyjustforme.Icanfixitandgetitbacktoyou.Itdoesn’thaveanythingtodowiththenumericalvalues.
• Dr.LeBlanc-Esparza–Iwentbackanddidthecalculations.Thenumbersarecorrectit’sjustthatcellgotafunctionaddedtoit.
• DirectorMock–Idon’thaveaquestionabouttheinformationprovidedbutwhatarewegoingtodoaboutthedeficit?Whatcanwedo?Mrs.Gardner–Thosediscussionshavealreadystarted.OnethingIamgoingtodoisgooutandtalktoalloftheprincipalsandaskthemtohelp,toeconomize.Ifcumulativelytheycansave$80,000thatisoneteacher.Thingslikethat.

budgetprocesscalendar.Wedidnotputtomanybulletpointsonthecalendar.Thebudgetmeetingswilllookdifferentthisyearbecauseofwhatwejustdiscussed.Ifyoucouldtakealookatthisandletusknowwhatyouwanttoaddortakeawayletmeknow.Wearenotadoptingthistoday.Iwouldreallyliketohearhowyouthinkthisbudgetsessionwillgothisyear.Dr.LeBlanc-Esparza–Wearestartingearlyandanticipatingthatthelegislaturesessionwillgolong.

BACKGROUND:PriortoMarch1,2017theBoardofDirectorsmustdetermineandannouncethenumberofstudentsthedistrictwillacceptviatheHB3681process.Thenumbermaybeoneofthefollowing:all,none(0),allwithbillapprovedlimitations,oraspecificquantity(example:100students.)TheDistrictmaynotusethelanguage“eligible”studentsincorrelationwiththenumberofstudentstheywillacceptviaHB3681.AllstudentsareeligiblefortransferunderHB3681.Districtshavethreeoptions:1. DonotaccepttransfersundertheOpenEnrollmentprocess.2. Openthedistricttotransferswithnolimitation.(AutomaticallyeffectiveiftheBoarddoesnot
makeadecisionotherwise.)3.
