&SOLUTIONS

What is Female Athlete Triad?

Some girls who play sports or exercise intensely are at risk for a problem called female athlete triad. Female athlete triad is a combination of three conditions: disordered eating, amenorrhea, and osteoporosis. A female athlete can have one, two, or all three parts of the triad.

What kind of diet is suitable for athlete?

What we eat has a huge impact on how our body function:A suitable diet for an athlete consist of approximately 65%

complex carbohydrates, 10 to 15% fat (preferably of vegetable origin), and 10% protein.

They have to take less milk, animal protein and fats because they are difficult to break down and use up a great amount of energy for digestion and assimilation.

Does she need to lose her weight in order to improve her performance?

Losing those few pounds generally doesn't improve performance at all because muscle required nutrients to perform optimum.

Why she is having a stress facture in her ankle?

Low estrogen levels and poor nutrition, especially low calcium intake, can lead to osteoporosis.

Does an athlete need to practice Hannah ways of life?

No, because Hannah didn’t practice a healthy lifestyle.

Why Hannah’s period had stopped?

Exercising intensely and not eating enough calories can lead to decreases in estrogen, the hormone that helps to regulate the menstrual cycle.

Who can help Hannah to overcome her problems?

Doctor, coaches, parents, physical therapists, pediatricians and adolescent medicine specialists, nutritionists and dietitians, and mental health specialists can all work together to treat the physical and emotional problems that Hannah faces.

What should Hannah do in order to increase her physical condition?

Don’t skip meals or snacksKeep track on her periodsVisit a dietitian or nutritionistAlways be motivated and think positively

Is an athlete lifestyle can be considered as a healthy lifestyle?

Yes because sports and exercise are part of a balanced, healthy lifestyle. People who play sports are healthier and often get better grades. However, the athlete could not exercise extremely and drastically to avoid fatigue and fracture bone.

What will happen to Hannah in the future if she keeps on this lifestyle?

Weight lossanorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa Periods stop or irregular periodsFatigue and decreased ability to concentrateStress fractures (fractures that occur even if a person hasn't had a

significant injury)Muscle injuries
