SIGNATURE EVENT COMMITTEE MEMBERS
A Letter from the PresidentIt is my honor to welcome you to the second annual Junior League of Birmingham, Michigan Inc.’s SignatureEvent, Spring Sophisticate. This yearwe celebrate the Roaring 20's in style!
I would like to give a very special thank you to the Signature Event Committee for putting on this eventand bringing us together this evening. The committee has worked tirelessly since they were formed in July 2014. Anticipation and excitement has been building all year! They adopted a trendsetting theme and made the bold decision to bring us into Detroit to celebrate in thisbreathtaking space. They are the bee’s knees!
As our largest fundraiser, the goal of Spring Sophisticateis to raise funds and friends to support the JLB’smission. We are an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential ofwomen, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Our purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
This year we provided healthy lifestyle education with our Kids in the Kitchen program, Little Green Gardeners and Girls on the Run. We gave back to the community with our Pumpkin Patch event, CommonGround’s Adopt-a-Family program and the Care House
Holiday Party. We conducted a successful anti-human trafficking billboard campaign across metro-Detroit and participated in SOAP and Day at the Capitol. We were also especially proud to announce the passage of 21 new anti-human trafficking laws in the State of Michigan, which the Michigan Attorney General credits partially to our support.
I am truly honored to serve as the President of this wonderful organization. On behalf of the JLB, I sincerely thank you for attending the Spring Sophisticate and supporting the League and its initiatives.
Warmest regards,
Julie Gheen President 2014-2015
