INTRODUCTION
First of all, we were assumed to conduct a survey to study the understanding level of
male aged 21-25 and adults aged 26-30 on one of the common chronic diseases in Malaysia by
Kementrian Kesihatan Malaysia. This task is to collect, organize, present and draw simple
statistical data.
One of the common chronic diseases is Asthma. We decided to study the understanding
level between male of young adult aged 21-25 and adults aged 26-30 on Asthma. The number of
people with asthma continues to grow. One in 12 people has asthma in 2009, compared to 1 in 14
people who has asthma in 2001. 53% of people worldwide with asthma had an asthma attack in
2008. More children than adults had an attack according to Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, USA.
Asthma is a lifelong disease that causes wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness and
coughing. It can limit one person’s life quality. Meanwhile there is no permanent cure for
Asthma, but people with Asthma can control their symptoms and prevent asthma attacks by
avoiding asthma triggers and correctly using prescribe medicines such as inhalers,
anticholinergics, and more. Asthma is worse at night than day, and can be due to over exercising.
A child with family history of Asthma has a high chance of having an asthma attack as this is
4
passed down within the family genes. Asthma is also caused by allergies to the surrounding such
as dust, pollens and haze.
A mother who smokes during pregnancy might have a high chance of the child
developing Asthma. Using of antibiotics during early life has also link to the development of
Asthma. Every day in Malaysia, about 1,400 people have asthma attack, 150 people are admitted
to hospital due to asthma and every 3 days, 1 people die from asthma.

OBJECTIVE
The survey’s primary objective is to study the understanding level of male who are young adult
aged 21 to 25 and adults aged 26 to 30 on one of the common chronic diseases in Malaysia. The
common chronic disease we chose to study is Asthma. We will need to collect and organize
statistical data. From there, we will have to draw conclusion from the data collected. Besides, we
are able to conduct a simple survey of 200 young adults and adults, to ensure the understanding
level of them about Asthma. It also improves our communication with the participants. Finally, it
enhances teamwork and leadership while conducting this survey and completing our report.
6
METHODOLOGY
Data for this report were gathered from 23rd October till 12th November 2014. The questionnaire
survey was carried out from 3rd to 7th November 2014 to participants. Since there are 4 of us in a
group, each of us are assigned to approach 50 male participants within the 5 days, averaging 10
participants per day. Questionnaires are equally distributed all around Taylor’s University
Lakeside Campus.
After collecting 200 survey forms back from the participants in Taylor’s University
Lakeside Campus, we collected the data and created tables and diagram to distribute the data
collected based on every question, and age. * We also calculated the mean of each questions.
After we have finished analyzing the data collected, we conclude most adults *do not understand
much about the chronic disease, asthma.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the major purpose of our survey is to gather and combine all the
information into a complete table to examine the understanding level of males about asthma.
Through the data collected, most males do not understand much about Asthma, one of the
chronic diseases in Malaysia. 45.5% of males ticked that tightness of chest is not a symptom of
asthma. 55.5% of males in our data assumed that asthma is not worse at night than day.
However, it is worse at night than the day and it is proven by doctors around the world.
65.5% of males claimed that over exercising does not cause asthma. 104 males think that
asthma is not caused by air pollution. 83 males argued that medication for asthma is less than
RM 50, whereas the other 107 males argued that medication for asthma is more than RM 50.
12% of 200 males strongly agree that asthma has affected the number of death in Malaysia, 17%
agreed, 63.5% is neutral towards that statement, 5% disagree with the statement mentioned
above and 2.5% strongly disagree with it. 95 males seldom see death by asthma, however, 28 see
death by asthma very often, 52 often see death by asthma, and 25 never see death by asthma
before.
Finally, Kementrian Kesihatan Malaysia should organize more campaigns to raise the
awareness of asthma throughout the country. Also, info graphic posters should be hung around
the streets of Malaysia to increase the citizen’s knowledge of asthma. Teachers in all school
should also discuss about asthma with their students too.
