Green Tip of the Day

Avoid these plastics like the plague!!!

Plastics #3 and #6

Where they’re found: Condiment bottles, shampoo bottles, cooking oil bottles, Meat trays, egg cartons, carry-out containers, aspirin bottles, disposable cups.

Why they’re bad: Known to release phthalates and styrenes into food and drinks. Number 6 plastics have also become notorious for being one of the most difficult plastics to recycle.

Plastic #7 Where it’s found: No. 7 is a catch-all for

various types of plastics, including those found in baby bottles, three- and five-gallon water bottles, 'bullet-proof' materials, sunglasses, DVDs, iPod and computer cases, signs and displays, certain food containers and nylon

Why it’s bad: Number 7 plastics are made up of various resins; some contain Bisphenol A (BPA), a synthetic estrogen that could disrupt the human hormone system, causing various health effects.

The Hidden Costs of Plastics

300 million tons of crude oil are used to manufacture the plastics we use on an annual basis.

Plastics, Plastics Everywhere…What am I to do?

In addition to avoiding plastics, 3, 6, & 7…
