MICHEL LAGARDE

Michel Lagarde was born in Cadouin, France, in 1954. He currently lives and works close to Paris.

He has worked for thirty years as a set designer in film, theater, special events, and fashion productions. As a photographic artist, he directs his creative energies, and his craft, to creating and producing personal fictions like Dramagraphies, an ongoing series of self-portraits he began in 2004.

Dramagraphies

I’m not a photographer in the traditional sense, in that I don’t photograph what is commonly perceived to be objective reality.

I create photographic visions of sorts, where photography, theater, cinema, and painting, come together in epic narrative images that illustrate the random vagaries of my subconscious; a long and complicated process that always starts off as a blank page.

To be sure, it’s not really me in my images. The characters are merely roles that I interpret, as an actor, giving myself enough leeway to assume and project the particulars of each character as I see fit, which I find very amusing.
