Cut delays in supply of weapons: HMNEW DELHI, Sept 7:

Home Minister RajnathSingh today lamented the“delay” in supply of weapons andcritical equipment to the CRPFby the Defence Ministry and saidthere was a need to develop aframework involving defencePSUs to address the issue.

Singh also called upon allDefence Public SectorUndertakings (DPSUs) to focuson 100 per cent indigenisation ofmilitary equipment and platformsand effectively implement theMake in India initiative indefence production to bringdown import dependence.

Welcoming the appointmentof Nirmala Sitharaman asDefence Minister, Singh exudedconfidence that the key Ministrywill get “new energy andstrength” under her as womensymbolise “shakti” (strength).

Speaking at an event inDRDO, where equipment builtby several DPSUs were handedover to the paramilitary CRPF,the Home Minister said procure-

ment of weapons and other sys-tems for paramilitary forces islargely handled by the DefenceMinistry and delays in their sup-plies often affect them.

Sitharaman was also presenton the occasion, the first eventshe attended as the DefenceMinister.

“For the CRPF, I have seenthat the procurement of equip-ment is done by the DefenceMinistry. The CRPF does not getthe priority it should.

“There has been a delay insupply of equipment andweapons to them. There is a needto think over it as due to thedelay, they suffer. I think a frame-work for it has to be developed,”Singh said.

The CRPF was handed overvarious weapons and platformsdeveloped by DPSUs whichincluded armoured buses, bullet-proof jackets, assault rifles, allterrain vehicles, carbines andunmanned aerial vehicles(UAV).

Sitharaman congratulated theDefence Research Development

Organisation and other DPSUsinvolved in developing the criti-cal platforms.

The Home Minister asked theDPSUs to focus on 100 per centindigenisation of military equip-ment and platforms and not limitthe indigenous components to 60,70 or 80 per cent.

He expressed happiness overthe appoinment of Sitharamanand noted that the media hashailed the move to make her thefirst full time woman defenceminister.

“I was with you at your lastevent as Commerce Minister andI am present here at your firstevent as Defence Minister,” saidSingh.

The Home Minister said thearmed forces will have to equipthemselves with latest technolo-gies to deal with those involvedin crimes.

He said when he visitednaxal-dominated areas inJharkhand, jawans requested fortlighter helmets. “We have givenlighter helmets, but there is aneed to make them more lighter.”

He said, “Those involved incrime are using latest technolo-gies. While sitting in any part ofthe world, anybody can makeanyone a terrorist, they canhack.... We will have to equipourselves with latest technologiesto combat them.” (PTI)

ISLAMABAD, Sept 7:

Pakistan is among the top 50countries with high terrorismfinancing and money launderingrisks, according to a latest report bya Swiss group.

The Basel Institute onGovernance, in its 2017 edition ofthe Basel Anti-Money Laundering(AML) Index which has assessed146 countries regarding moneylaundering and terrorism financingrisks, said that Afghanistan, Nepaland Sri Lanka stand out with par-ticular high risk scores in the Index.

Pakistan has been placed on the46th position in the list of 146countries which have been givenmarks on a scale of 0 — low risk to10 — high risk, by theSwitzerland-based independentnot-for-profit competence center.

The average risk score this yearis equal to 6.15.

The 10 countries with the high-est AML risk are Iran, Afghanistan,Guinea-Bissau, Tajikistan, Laos,Mozambique, Mali, Uganda,Cambodia and Tanzania while the

three lowest risk countries areFinland, followed by Lithuania andEstonia, the group said in a recentreport published on itswebsite.(PTI)

Son dies, father hurt in accidentExcelsior Correspondent

RAJOURI, Sept 7: A minorboy was killed while his fatherinjured when their motor-cyclewas hit by a Mini-bus nearFatehpur in Rajouri today.

The deceased has been identi-fied as 9-year-old Shahid Ahmed,son of Mohammed Shakeel, res-ident of Saj village in Rajouri.Shakeel, an Army jawan hadcome to his home on leave and healong with his wife and son, wasgoing to Rajouri town on his bikeNo. JK11-A/7614 for shopping.

At Fatehpur, his bike was hitby a speeding Matador at a curve,killing boy on the spot. Whilewife sustained minor bruises,Shakeel received multipleinjuries. The rear tyre of Mini-buscrushed the head of the boy, caus-ing his on the spot death. Thedriver escaped from the spotwhile police seized the MatadorNo. JK11A/1181.

The dead body of thedeceased was shifted to DistrictHospital for postmortem. Thepolice has registered a case in thisconnection.

JAMMU, Sept 7: Various KPorganizations and social activistshave expressed grave concernover scarcity of water in Jagtitownship and demanded its imme-diate restoration.

In their separate statements therelief holders and over aged youthleader Ravinder Pandita, SunilPandita and social activist VijayKoul have urged the Relief author-ities to take immediate steps inrestoration of water to Jagti town-ship failing which the inmates oftownship will come to streets inprotest.

They said that the people wereput to many hardships as there iscomplete scarcity of drinkingwater for last fortnight in the town-

ship and o no steps were taken tilldate in restoring the same puttingthe inmates to many hardships inthis hot and humid Summer.

They said despite taking up thematter with concerned ExecutiveEngineer he failed to act and takequick steps in restoring the watersupply.

The camp inmates alsodemanded that a new water supplyscheme for the camp be taken upin hand as the old scheme hascompletely failed.

NIA doing itsduty: Rijiju

NEW DELHI, Sept 7:

Union Minister Kiren Rijijutoday dismissed objections tothe investigation by the NIAinto terror funding in Jammuand Kashmir saying the ongo-ing probe of the anti-terroragency should not be linkedwith politics.

"The NIA is doing its duty.It is working in national inter-est. No one should object it. Noone should mix it with politics,"he told reporters on the side-lines of a function.

Rijiju was responding toquestions on announcement byKashmiri separatists YasinMalik, Syed Ali Shah Geelaniand Mirwaiz Umar Farooq thatthey would hold a dharna out-side the office of the NationalInvestigation Agency (NIA) inDelhi and court arrest againstthe alleged harassment by theagency.

The NIA has been conduct-ing raids and arresting peopleassociated with the separatistleaders in connection withalleged money laundering andsome other cases.

In Srinagar, Malik wastoday arrested by local policewhile Farooq was put underhouse arrest. Geelani is underhouse arrest for the past severalyears now. (PTI)

PEEU highlights demands,warns agitation

JAMMU, Sept 7: ProvincialElectrical Employees Union(PEEU) in its monthly meetinghere, today held under the chair-manship of its president PCSharma demanded immediate set-tlement of its long pendingdemands.

The meeting demanded retro-spective effect to the already regu-larized daily wagers who qualifiedin terms of SRO 64 of 1994,amendment in PDD servicerecruitment rules 381 of 1981,release of technical grade to all IITand equivalent in terms of SRO149 of 1973, clarification regard-ing implementation of SRO 59 inJammu province, starting diplomacourses for in service employees

on Government expenses, openingof new EM and RE Division inKathua with its headquarter atBasholi, regularization of dailywagers and amendment in PDDEmployees Welfare Scheme.

The Union earlier took upthese issues with Deputy ChiefMinister and urged him to fulfillthe commitment by framing a pol-icy for regularization of all dailywagers engaged in differentdepartments by amending orextending SRO 64 of 1994.

The Union also warned tolaunch strike in case Governmentfails to concede the demands.

KATHUA, Sept 7: Twomotorcycle borne youth snatchedear rings of a woman in PatelNagar area of Kathua town thisevening.

The lady identified as BimlaDevi, wife of Bharat Singh ofPatel Nagar was standing outsideher house this evening when sud-denly two motorcycle borneyouth approached near her andforcibly snatched her two ear

rings and fled towards theNational Highway.

The lady raised an alarm andpeople gathered but the youth hadfled by that time.

Later she registered a compli-ant at PS Kathua and Police hastaken the cognizance of the mat-ter.

The people also protestedagainst the act and alleged that thefailure of police patrolling hasbeen the main cause of increasingacts of snatchings from the area.

Drug peddler arrested,charas recovered

KATRA, Sept 7: Katra Policetoday arrested a drug peddler andseized 60 gms of charas from hispossession.

A Police team of P/S Katra,headed by ASI Puran Chand, laida naka at Counter No.2 in Katraand apprehended the accused.During his frisking, the policeteam succeeded in recovery of 60gms of charas.

Police arrested the accused,identified as Daleep Kumar ofDhirthi, tehsil Katra and seizedthe recovered charas.

In this connection, a case FIRNo. 161/2017 U/S 8/20 NDPSAct has been registered at P/SKatra.
