What is Cloud exactly ?

Definition of “Cloud Service”

Cloud services are self-contained units of functionality or IT capability offered through cloud computing to its consumers. Cloud service offerings range from

managed units of computing infrastructure (such as storage) through platforms(database, web containers, etc.) all the way to complete software solutions (e.g.

finance, HR, etc)

Cloud Services are NOTSOA (Service Oriented Architecture) Services

Web Services

Helpdesk Services

NIST Definition of Cloud ComputingCloud computing is a model for enabling convenient, on-demand network

access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and

released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.

The Weakest Link is Human

Cloud and Security

Phsyical Security –camera, walls, access controls

Logical Security – isolation, access controls, access rights

Data Access – isolated data resource pools

Environmental Precautions – building, cooling, energy, network

Anti virus, DDoS etc.

Automatic or Autonomous ?

Automatic Autonomous

Autonomous Car

Examples: • Cruise control • Emergency stopping• Warnings for lane changes

No need to use the steering wheel or brake.

Simply tell the car where you are going.

Autonomous Database

Examples:• Automatic storage

management• Automatic workload

All features automatically implementedSimply tell the database your goals

The Future Is Autonomous Database

25

We are at the dawn of the intelligent, autonomous age and having a self-driving database is a natural progression... I feel that autonomous databases will become ubiquitous in the future.”– Clark A. Kho , Senior Technology Architect, Accenture
