A Family Engagement E-Letter from the ADAMHS Board Prevention Project
ISSUE 6: GET CRAFTY
When You Craft You...
Express Yourself Part of being human is learning who we are and where we fit in the world. Creativity allows space for self-discovery
and learning new things about ourselves that we can share with others.
Problem-Solve Problem-solving is a natural part of the creative process.
Relax The act of creating something that you enjoy encourages
a sense of ease.
Feel Creating is like playing, which is important to everyone’s
sense of happiness and well-being.
Connect Being creative nurtures relationships, and can help you find
“your people”.
Take Safe Risks Being creative isn’t easy, and making things others will
like can be even harder. Creating new things involves cour-age, and the willingness to get back up if you fail.
Learn Being creative fosters the humility needed to know that
there is no such thing as perfect and that is how new growth occurs.
Find Solutions Together
Creating Inspires There are many ways that we can take pause from our busy schedules and engage with those
around us while exploring our creative sides. Explore new crafty activities such as painting a story, sewing an outfit, and making origami. So why not Gather Everyone Together and GET CRAFTY!

Origami is a fun and easy way to express yourself with little mess or expense. Although its exact history is unclear it’s
has likely at least been around as long as paper. Even though the Japanese word for this practice is most common, paper fold-
ing has influenced cultures around the world including China, Europe, and here in the United States and allows for a diverse
range of ages and groups to participate.
