Welcome to our information pack abouttheGenerationsMulti Academy Trust andits two schools, Goffs and Goffs-Churchgate. Goffs is a mixed 11-18comprehensive Academy withapproximately 4300 students on roll,including a thriving and successful SixthForm. The school is extremely popular inthelocalarea,withanaverageofover700applications annually for the 240 placesavailable, and significant waiting lists for
placesacrosstheyeargroups.Onintake,studentsareofanabilitylevel(KS2APS)significantlyabovethatofthenationalaveragealthoughtheschoolisatruecomprehensiveschoolandadmitsagoodmixofstudentsofallabilitylevels.
Goffs-Churchgate is a fully mixedcomprehensive school from 11-16 yearsofage,withover300studentsonroll;itisintendedtorapidlyexpandthisnumberto120 per year group, making a school of600. The school opened at the end ofAugust 2017, with a significant demandforplacessinceitsopening,reflectingthevery high level of local interest in theschool. Local estate agents reportsignificant interest in parents moving tothe locality with a view to being nearGoffs-Churchgate: a very successful future is predicted for the school. The school is alreadyoversubscribed for the current Year 7 and Year 8, with numbers in Years 9 – 11 rapidly reachingcapacity.Oneoftheschool’skeystrengthsisitshighlycohesiveandsupportivecommunity.Assuch,thedecisiontocapstudentnumbersat600 isentirelydeliberate,enablingustomaintainastrongsense of community where everybody knows everybody else – if you visit, you cannot fail to bestruckbythis.Itisaveryspecialpartofwhoweare.

Staff and studentswork inmodern, professional environments, with both having benefitted fromrecentbuildingprojects includingafull,£20millionrebuildatGoffs.Thenewfacilitiesprovidelight,modern,professionalandafitforpurposeworkingenvironmentforall.
TheGenerationsMultiAcademyTrust
In early 2016, Goffs Academy received a direct approach from the DfE asking that they considerestablishing a Multi Academy Trust and work in partnership with other schools. As a result, theGenerationsMATwasestablishedfrom1stSeptember2016,withGoffsastheleadschoolwithintheTrust.Goffs-Churchgatewasborn fromthatvision.The twoschoolsarewithinwalkingdistanceofeachotherandalreadysharemanyactivities,includingCPDforstaff.OneoftheTrust’sfundamentalprinciplesisthatnooneschoolisinanywaymoreimportantorsuccessfulthantheother.Assuch,CPDandothereventsarerotatedthroughallschoolsintheTrust,witheveryonelearningfromandsharingwitheachother.ThiscollegiateandcollaborativeapproachpermeatesourTrust.
Ourfutureplansincludeestablishinganurseryprovisionwithsubsidisedstaffplaces,andlookingatthe opportunity to establish or joinwith a primary school, thus effectively creating an all througheducationstructure.TheMAToffersextremelyexcitingopportunitiesforstaff,studentsandthelocalareaandweareallverymuchlookingforwardtoitsgrowth.
Outcomes
Ourstrategyforcontinuousschoolimprovementhashadhugesuccessacrossbothschools,andweareactivelycommittedtoensuringthattheschoolsinourMATcontinuetooffercentresofexcellenceinlearningforthelocalcommunity.
Examresultsin2018wereanotheryearofhugesuccessforGoffs.GCSEhighlightsinclude:
• Progress8expectedtobesignificantlyabovenationalaverage(wassignificantlypositiveat+0.34)uponpublication
• 74%ofstudentsachievedgrade4ormoreinEnglishandmathsand57%achieved5ormoreinboth
• Englishgrade4/5ormore:86%/74%
• Mathsgrade4/5ormore:79%/64%
• ProgressexpectedtobesignificantlyaboveaverageforbothEBaccandOthersubjects
AtALevel,continuingtheupwardtrendofrecentyears,studentsachievedanotherexcellentsetofexamresults.Onceagain,outcomestrackedupfromlastyear'sexcellentresultsinkeyareasincludinggradesatA*/A,A*-B,A*-C,andtheaveragegradeachievedbyeachstudent.Theoverallpassratewas100%.ApproximatelythreequartersoftheyeargroupprogressedtouniversityorfurthereducationcoursesincludingHistory,Criminology,Accounting,Law,Mathematics,Economics,SportsJournalism,Fashion,Acting,Sociology,Architecture,ClinicalStudies,EnglishLiterature,Geology,Geography,ChemistryandMedicalEngineering,tonamebutafew,whilsttheotherstudentsprogresseddirectlyintoemploymentorapprenticeships.OurSixthFormhasanexcellentreputationinthelocalarea;overthepastthreeyearsthenumbersofstudentsapplyingtojoinourSixthFormhasincreasedandisnowaround150peryear.Thisgrowthinpopularityissupportedbyacontinuedupwardtrendinoutcomes;84%ofstudentsachievedA*-CatAlevelin2018.
Goffs-Churchgate secured its first set of public examination results in summer 2018, achieving aremarkably75% improvementonthepredecessorschool’s results in justoneyear.Assuch, in justoneyear,outcomeswent frombeing in thebottomc.12% in thecountry, tobeing in linewiththenationalaverage.Toachievesuchphenomenalprogressinsuchashortperiodoftimeistestamenttotheschool’sstaffandstudents.Weknowthatthissuccessrepresentsjustthestartofourjourney,andthatveryexcitingtimeslieahead.
Both schools target set in the top 10% of all schools nationally and strive at all times to meetambitioustargets.Wearecommittedtoacycleofcontinuousimprovementandaspirationandarekeen to appoint a colleague who shares that vision, determination and a restless quest for evenhigher outcomes. All of these factors combine tomake The Generation Trust a very exciting andrewardingcommunitytobeapartof.
Community
Bothschoolspridethemselvesontheirsenseofcommunity–bothwithintheschoolitself,andinthewider locality. Visitors to our schools unfailingly comment on a very real sense of community,coupledwithwarmthandpride.BothschoolsaremembersofCheshuntExtendedServices(ChExS),offeringavarietyofextendedschoolandcommunitybasedactivitiesforbothstudentsandparents.OurstudentsactivelysupportlocalcharityworksuchastheIsabelHospice,andmaintainstronglinkswith our local primary schools. Each school also benefits from a thriving student leadershipprogramme, with students leading on key development projects of their choice, ensuring strongstudentvoiceandparticipationacrosstheTrust.Wefirmlybelieveineverystudentfeelingastrongsenseofcommunity,andonenteringeachschool,everystudentisplacedinaHouse.EachHouseisledbyateamofstudentHouseCaptainsandhasaclearsenseofidentity.Regularcompetitionsandassembliesstrengthenthissenseofcommunity.EachyeartheHouseCaptainsdecideonapossiblegroup of charities to support, with students then voting for their chosen school charity andsubsequently arranging a variety of fund raising events throughout the schoolyear. Such work isindicativeoftheabilityofstudents intheTrusttoempathisewiththeneedsofothers,andfurtherdevelopstheircapacitytoworksuccessfullyinavarietyofsocialsettings.
We regularly bring visitors from the community into school to work with students, andmaintainstrong links with our local secondary schools. Each school’s facilities are used for evening andweekend lettings, including superb sporting facilities, as well as holiday classes, providingopportunities for a diverse range of users including theGreek School, and local dance and sports
groups.
AcrosstheMultiAcademyTrustalargevarietyofannualschooltripsgivestudentstheopportunitiestosampledifferentcultures,whilstanextensiveprogrammeofoff-sitevisitsprovidesopportunitiesfor students to experience the diversity that exists within the UK, including theatre, galleries andmuseumvisits.
Both schools are proud to be truly comprehensive schools,with students and staff fromdifferentreligionsandanumberof languagesspoken ineachschool.AsaTrustwerecogniseandcelebratewhatmakesusuniqueanddifferent,andacknowledgethatwearealsopartofonecommunity.Ouraimisforeverybodytofeelvaluedandrespectedandwestrivehardtoensurewecreateapositiveculturewithintheschooltoenablethistohappen.
TheGoffsSchoolDog:MaximusAurelius
Max joined Goffs in January 2017, and is a black Labrador, known for their very affabletemperament.HeisownedbyCarolineLegg,VicePrincipal,andherhusband,butspendshisdaysinschool.HegoesonregularwalksaroundschoolandspendstimeinLearningPlusandtheLRCwhereourmore reluctant readerscan read tohim,asoneexample.HealsohashisownTwitter feed. Inshort,Maxisafullmemberofourcommunityandhasbeenwarmlywelcomedbystudents,staffandparents. The student Digital Leaders are also enjoying running Max’s Twitter account and blog!Followhim@GoffsSchoolDog
Wehaveapolicyandriskassessment,bothofwhichhavebeenthroughourlawyers.ItgoeswithoutsayingthatanyonenotwantinganycontactwithMax,forpersonalorhealthreasons,willnothaveany. However, potential SLT should be aware thatMax’s base is in the Principal’s office which isdirectlyconnectedtotheconferenceroom.

Successful learningtakesplacewhenstudentsfeelsafe, confident, respected and valued, and areengaged. The Trust believes in supporting andnurturing all students in their quest to becomesuccessfullearners.Assuch,weplaceahighvalueon pastoral care as an integral part of the life ofeachschool.
Wepromotepositiveattitudes towards learningandprovidea caringand supportiveenvironmentwithin our community. Continuously nurturing, supporting and developing our students is hugelyimportanttousandsignificantinvestmentismadeineachschool’spastoralstructures.
StaffDevelopment
TheTrusthasanextremelystrongreputationforstaffdevelopmentbothteachingandsupportstaff.Developingthenextgenerationofschoolleaders,bothmiddleandsenior,andfutureHeadteachersforthosewhowishtopursuethis,isaresponsibilitythatwetakeveryseriously.
Wehavea fullsuiteofstaff leadershipdevelopmentwhichstaffcan joinbetheyanNQTorhighlyexperiencedcolleague,whilst I chair thenational LeadershipPartnerSchoolnetwork,agroup thatbrings together schools dedicated to developing outstanding leadership skills throughout theircommunities,andwhichallowsustovisitothernetworkschools,toattendnationalconferencesand
tosharebestpractice.
Inadditionto innovativewholestaff trainingdays,we disaggregate a number of hours for trainingevery year. This allows staff development to behighlypersonalisedasstaffcanoptforthetrainingwhich best meets their needs, including theopportunitytodoaresearchprojectinpartnershipwith Cambridge University. Many use theirdisaggregated time to coach others or to receivecoaching. Moreover, there are specific trainingsessionsforNQTsandother interestedstaffwhich
runeachweekafterschool.
Wealsoplacealotofemphasison‘onthejob’trainingandsupport.Athoroughinductionschemeisavailable to all new staff, and mentors/buddies are assigned to guide you through those newroutines. Finally, external courses can of course be booked if, on very rare occasions,we cannotcaterforaparticulartrainingneedinhouse.

Attendance to all training sessions leads to certification by the SSAT. In addition, we encourageaspirant Senior Leaders to take part in the SSAT ‘Stepping Up to Senior Leadership’ trainingprogramme, which includes four external sessions throughout the year. As part of the Trust’scommitmenttodevelopingfuture leaders,anumberoftheexistingSeniorLeadershipTeamacrossboth schools gained experience through an ‘Associate’ SLT position before gaining substantiveleadershipposts.
