Consente di
raccogliere dati
sugli elementi

linguistici dei
bambini nei primi
anni di vita
partendo dai primi
segnali non
verbali.

Osservazioni dirette in contesto strutturato:
prove di denominazione
Studio 1: Osservazione diretta in compito
strutturato (Stefanini, Bello, Caselli, Iverson, Volterra , 2009)
50 bambini con sviluppo tipico fra 27 mesi 7 anni
PiNG (forma estesa): 44 nomi e 33 predicati

Conclusioni
Sappiamo che la cultura italiana e’
stata definita come una “gestural
prominent culture” (Kendon)
Ci aspettiamo risultati simili in bambini
allevati in altre culture ed esposti a
lingue diverse ?

sviluppo

COMB (27)
The gestures are mainly one-handed (24 out of 27), and are performed contacting the same
location : the head. There are only three cases where both hands are involved symmetrically.
The hand configurations used are mainly 5 or blend 5. The direction of movement is from
the front to the back or on the side of the head. Interestingly enough, in two cases the gesture
of combing is performed handling the picture of the comb.
TO TURN (23)
Gestures are performed mainly with one hand (16 out of 23). All gestures are executed in the
neutral space with a single (13), repeated (4) and continuous (6) movement. All gestures
(except one) have a circular motion. Hand configurations vary, but the most frequent are
bent-5 (11), G (7) and bent-L(6). Almost half of the cases have contact with the picture, and
in two cases the picture itself is rotated.
“Forms of expression in gesture have much in common with
certain forms of expression in primary sign languages. That
is, there is common ground between ‘gesture’ and ‘sign’.”
(Kendon, 2004)
Conclusioni
Riassumendo
• “….. When 2-year-old children label pictures
depicting objects or actions, occasionally they still
need to perform an ‘action’ in the form of a ‘gesture’
The function of these gestures may be to recreate a
‘direct link’ with the object or the action to be labeled.
This suggests that words may not yet be fully de-
contextualised, and the production of a gesture may
recreate the context in which the word was initially
stesso setting
• Nuovi sistemi di trascrizione di gesti e segni: l’esempio
del SW
