Design?

Definition of Instructional Design“…a systematic process to design, develop, implement

and evaluate instruction..” – Dick and Reiser (1989)

The ASSURE model contains six steps and the letters in ASSURE

form an acronym.

ASSURE ModelAnalyze Learners

Who are your students?

ASSURE ModelAnalyze Learners

psychological factors

ASSURE Model

• The ABCDs can be used to create a well-stated objectives:

State Objective

Audience – specifies the learner for whom the objective is intended

Behaviour – capability need to be demonstrated

Conditions – under what condition are the learners to demonstrate the skill taught

Degree – how well do you want the student to demonstrate their mastery?

ASSURE Model

• Identify the ABCDs in the objective statement below:

– The Drawing class B will be able to identify and draw two perspective

drawing using pencil and ruler with 100% accuracy

– kindergarten class will identify the colors, red, green, and blue using

blocks 9 out of 10 tries.

– Create your own objective statement

State Objective : Activity

ASSURE Model

• Choose a method to deliver your instruction

– Have your student to work in a small group

– Use tutorial in your lesson

• Select media : best to support the method you have chosen

• Media may includes:

– technology solution

– Internet resources

– Print resources

Select Media & Materials

ASSURE Model

preview the materials

practice the presentation

prepare the environment

prepare the audience

present the material

Utilize Media & Materials

ASSURE Model

• Opportunities for learners to practice

• Get them to participate actively

• Get them involve in the learning process

Introduction

• Layout design in electronic presentation such as power point,

refers to the skill used to arrange media in the slide in order

to produce an attractive presentation

• CASPER, the principle of design

• Guidelines on how to arrange media; text, graphic, animation,

Repetition

CASPER

• If there are two different items on screen, it should be differentiated in regards to each other

• Avoid overlapping

• It helps to attract audience

• It can be accomplished through:– Font size– Font type– Line– Color– Graphics

Contrast

CASPER

CONTRAST

CONTRAST

Contrast

CASPER

• Each element in the presentation should be in balance with the screen size.

• Balance:

– Symmetrical

– Asymmetrical

– text

– Graphic

– Text and graphic

• Same element should be grouped – near to each other

• Different element should be placed far from each other – avoid

overlapping

• The aim is to create a visual that consist of separated units

Proximity

CASPERProximity

CASPER

• Emphasis on elements and information in the screen

• Can be accomplished through:

– Text size and object

– Text shape and object

– Text arrangement and object

– Text color, object color and background color
