Characteristicsforallthefamouscharts.Wehadanassociategothroughallnow3,200famouschartsandaddatleastone,butsometimes2or3,“Characteristics”toeachchart.Characteristicsisafeaturethatwasalreadyinthesoftware,butisnowreallyuseablebecauseofthisaddition.Characteristicsareoneortwowordsthatdescribesomethingabouttheperson,usuallytheircareer,orthingstheyarefamousfor.Examples:PresidentClintonwouldget“President”aswellas“Politician”.PamelaLeeAndersonmightget“Model”and“SexSymble”.Iwouldgetprobably“Programmer”and“Astrologer”.Sointhisway,youcannowknow,withthisupgrade,thatallthefamouschartsincludedarenowsearchablebykeywordsasabove.Soyoucaninstantlygetlistsofchartsbasedonkeywordsforyourrevieworresearch.Youcanlooksatmodels,murderers,automakers,presidents,armyofficers,religiousleaders,IndianGurus,WHATEVER!....thereareatlastcountnearly600differentcategoriestochoosefrom.

12. Newfamouscharts,includingmorechartsofcurrentandrecentinterestmakingthetotalnow3,200people,alongwiththealreadyexistingroughly1000citiesandcountriesdatesofincorporationscharts.

YoucannowsetastandardcolorpalletteforthechartsonthemainchartwindowsstylesA,BandC.Youcansetthebackgroundcolorofcharts,thelines,andthesignsandplanetsglyphsallindividually,sothatJupiterisalwaysonecolor,Geminialwaysacertaincolor,andsoon.Youareabletochoosefromalargecolorarray.Youcansaveyoursettings,andtheywillalwaysbeused.

17. NowwhenyoumoveyourmouseoveraplanetinthechartonStylesAandByouaregiveninformationabouttheplanetinstantly.Ifyouclick,yougetquickreadings,andalsotheaspectsoftheplanetandit’slordshipswillblinkinthechartquiteclearly,showingyouwheretheplanetaspectsandlords.

18. TheRosterwindowfromVersion1wasaddedbacktoVersion2becausesomanyfolksmissedit’ssimplicityandsortingcapabilities.

19. Furthermore,onthe“Sort”menuthatappearsonchartwindowsStylesB,C,S,andaswellthe“ChartList”windowwhichisalwaysavailableunderthe“Main”menu,therehasbeenaddedsortsofthemainchartlist(presentonallthesewindowsandothers)bythePlanetsSigns,DegreesandHouses,andalsoapowerfulnew“ComplexSorts”menuline,whichpopsupawindowwhichallowsyoutobuildcomplexsortsfromallthe60orsoavailablefields.

20. Anewcolorreportwasadded.ThisoneisnicebecauseithaspicturesofRadha‐Krishna,VishnuandSivaonit.

22. IfyouenteraCity,StateandCountryforthechartsubject’s“CurrentResidence”onthe“Address/Note”window,thenthatcityyouenterthereisusedastheir“CurrentLocation”whenaccessingwindowslikeTransits,Panchang,andVarshaphal.

23. NumberHoraryor“KPHorary”wasadded.24. Similarly,butdifferent,isanewfeaturewhichallowsyoutosetthe

ascendantforacharttoanyexactpointinthezodiacthatyouenter.Thisisusefulforcreating“ChandraLagnaCharts”.

canignorethisnewfeaturecompletely,andtheprogramwillfeelnodifferentlytoyou,ifyouwanttonowyoucancontroltheayanamsasmuchmorecarefully.Weaddedtheabilityforyoutocontroltheinternalayanamsasettings‐enteringyourownfiguresforalltheayanamsasasyouwish.Besidesbeingabletosettheyearofalignmentandyearlyrateofprecession,youcanalsoentertablesofcheckpointdatesandayanamsas,orwhatI’vechosentocall“adjustmentdatesandayanamsas”‐whichareessentiallynothingmorethanadateandthecorrespondingayanamsaforthatdate.

IfyouareUpgrading,ReadThis!Note:NewasofVersion2.5:Thisversion,2.5,nolongerover‐writesyourolddatafileaspreviousversionsdid,so,youcantendtothefollowingmatterlaterifyouwant.OnWindows,whatitdoesnowisRENAMEyourolddatafile,appendingtheword“old”toitsname.OntheMac,thefoldercreatednowisnotthesamenameastheoldone,so,youroldinstallationisnotoverwritten.Itisadvise‐ablehoweverthatyoudeletetheOmnis7outoftheoldfolder,soasnottohavetwooftheOmnis7iconsonyourMacintosh,whichcancreateproblems.ButyoucanandshouldleaveyouroldDatafileintheoldfolder,soyoucanaccessthechartsinitlater.Toswitchbetweendatafiles,youusethe“Change/SelectDatafile”commandundertheFilemenuinsidetheGJprogram.Inotherwords,youruntheprogram,thenyoupull

downtheFilemenutothatline,andselecteitherdatafile,andasdetailedbelow,youcanexportandimportbetweendatafiles.Ifyouareupgrading,thenyouneedtoansweronequestion:DoyouhavechartsenteredinyourcurrentcopyofGoravaniJyotish,whichyoucouldnoteasilyre­enterintothenewversioneitherbecauseyou’veenteredmany,oryoudon’twanttohavetore­enterthem.IfyouanswerYEStothisquestion,thenyouneedtoexportthechartdatafromyourcurrentcopyofGoravaniJyotish,forimportationintothenewupgradedcopy.

Ifyoucaneasilyre‐enterthechartsyouhavecurrentlyentered,thendon’tbothwiththeexportandimportprocess.Butifyoudowanttosavesomecharts,thenyouhavetodotheexport/import.

Basically,theprocessgoeslikethis:Youexportthebirthdetailsforthechartsyoucurrentlyhaveentered.Thiscreatesa“textfile”onyourdisk(floppyorharddisk)whichcontainsthebirthdetailsforthechartsyouwanttosave.YoutheninstallthenewGoravaniJyotish,andafterit’srunning,youselectthe“Importcharts”featureandselectthefileofbirthdetailsyoucreated,andtheyarebroughtintothenewversion.It’sthatsimple,thoughittakesanumberofstepsasfollows.

ExportingChartsDataYoumaywishtowatchtheExpImp.exemovieaboutexportingandimportingchartsinthe“Movies”folderontheCD.Justdoubleclickonittoviewit.(Hopefullyyourmachinewillshowthemovieandplaythesoundforyou.Ifnot,sorry,wecan’tgetinvolvedindebuggingmachinesformultimediapurposes.Inthatcase,justcontinuewiththismanual‐it’scompletebyitself.)

Steps:

GointoyourcurrentcopyofGoravaniJyotish.Ifit’saversion1copy,gounderFiletoToolstoExportCharts.Thenselectthechartsyouwantfromthelist(youcanuse“Select

All”undertheEditmenuifyouwantthemall).YoucanhighlightcertainonesbyholdingdowntheControlkey(onWindows)ortheCommandkey(onMac)andthenclickingonebyoneonthechartsyouwant.

Ifit’saversion2copy,thendothis:GototheFilemenu,thento“Export/Import”,andthenunderthepopoutmenuselect“ExportAllCharts”.

Onversion1,besuretoselect“BirthDetailsOnly”asthefileformat.Donotselect“Completechart”becauseimportingthatformatisnotavailableinVersion2andlaterofGoravaniJyotish.UseONLYthe“BirthDetailsOnly”format.Youwillthenbeallowedinbothcasestosaveatextfilecontainingthebirthdataforthechartsyouhaveselectedtoexport.Thisiswhatsucha“filesave”dialogwindowlookslike:

Noticethatyoucannamethefile,andthedefaultis“printfile”,whichismisleading.Renameit“Charts.txt”.

Important:Rememberwhereyouaresavingthisfile,andwhatyou’venamedit.TheTXTextensionisa

goodonetouseonWindowsmachines.Theimportantthingistorememberwhereyouareputtingit,andthenameyouaregivingit,orallowingittohave.Noticethattheabovewindowshowsyouwhatfolderanddriveyouareputtingthefileinandon.Simplytakegoodnoticeofthenamesitisshowingyou.YouWILLNEEDTOKNOWthisinformationlater.Sinceyouareexportingyourchartsfromanoldversion,there’sagoodchanceyouaregoingtowanttothrowoutthatoldversion,atleastafterthenewoneisrunningfineforyou.So,becarefulaboutputtingyourchartexporttextfileintheoldversionfolder,asitmaygetthrownoutwiththerestofthefolder,shouldyoudothatlater.It’sjustathought‐thinkaboutwhereyouaresavingit.Puttingitonafloppyisagoodideaifyou’reunsurewheretoputit.

SothatcoversgettingyourchartsOUTOFyouroldcopy.AfteryouhaveinstalledthenewversionofGoravaniJyotish,youcanthenimportthosechartsintothenewversion.Sonowgetthenewprograminstalled,andwhenit’sworkingnormally,useit’sImportMenulineasdetailedlaterinthisbooklet.

MoviesontheCDTherearetrainingmoviesontheCDinthe“Movies”folder.Openthatfolderanddoubleclickonthemovies.Thereisalisttherealsowhichtellsyouwhateachmoviecontains.Doubleclickonthelistcalled“Movies.txt”.Therearemoviescoveringinstallation.Youcanwatchthembeforedoingthefollowinginstallationtogetacquaintedifyoulike.YoucanalsowatchtheExpImp.exemovieaboutexportingandimportingcharts.

InstallingGJonMSWindows(allversions)ForMacintosh,seethenextsection.

1.RunInstall.exeontheGoravaniJyotishCD

Select“Run”undertheStartmenu,thentypeD:\INSTALLintothe“Run”window.(useyourCDletterifitisn’tD,ie,tryEifDdoesn’twork)or,justopentheCDanddoubleclickonINSTALL.EXE.Open“Mycomputer”thentheCD,thenInstall.

Nowbepatientandwaitfortheinstallertocomeup!

3.ThenapprovetheC:\GorJyoV2destination.(It’sbest)

4.ThenapprovetheGoravaniGroupStartMenuProgramsGroup.

5.ItwillthenrunthroughtheinstallationofGJ.

6.Rebootaftertheinstallerfinishes.Thiswillactivateyourfonts.

9.RuntheprogrambytheicononyourdesktoporfromtheStartmenu,toPrograms,toGoravaniGroup,toGJ2.5

10.Ifyouget"Change/SelectDatafile"(ifitcomesup)selectData_Med.df1.DoNOTcreateanewdatafile(itwontwork!)Mostwillnotbeaskedto“ChangeDatafile”‐thiswindowwillnotappearusually.

11.Ifademo,click“RuninDemoMode”.Ifyoupurchasedtheprogram,clicktheactivatebutton,andthencallforanactivationcode(orusee‐mailasdescribedontheactivationwindow)..Ifwesentyouaseparatesheetforself‐activation,followthoseinstructionsinstead‐they’rebetterthansending/callingforacode.

12.You'rein‐enjoytheprogram.Besuretoreadthemanual.

13.Ifthefontslookwrongonthewindowsintheprogram,i.e.,theylooktoolargeandoverruntheirallottedlocationsandboxes,ordon’tlookliketheydidinoldversions,etc.,then,itmaybethattheyfontsdidnotgointothesystemcorrectly.WehavenoticedthisbehavioronXP.Ifso,openyoursystemfontsfolderthroughSetup,DisplayControlPanel,andseeAccujen,Accumon,andAccushi.Theseareour3mainfontsbesides“Jyotish”whichdoesn’tsufferthisproblem.Simplyhighlightthethreefontsbeginningwith“Accu”,thendoacut,thenapaste.Thiswillcutthemoutofthefontsfolder,thenpastethembackin.ThiswillcauseWindowstorunit’sOWNfontinstalleruponthem,whichtendstofixtheproblem.

14.See“ActivationorDemo”followingtheMacintoshinstructions.

InstallingGJontheMacintoshThisinstallerworkson68000machines(oldones),PPCmachines,andthelatestG3,4,5machines,andsystems8throughOSXincludingPanther,asofthetimeofthiswriting.ItmaywellworkonlaterversionsofOSXalso.

Becausethefolderhasanewname,itwillnotreplaceyouroldfolder.Soyourdatafilewillstillbethere.Youcanexportyourchartsfromitandimportthemintothisversion.Youmayhaveproblemsifyouleaveyouroldfolderonyoursystemhowever.IwoulddeleteitexceptfortheDatafilecontainedinsideit.Keepthattogetyouroldcharts.YoucanlogintothatdatafilefromthenewprogrambygoingundertheFilemenuto"Selectdatafile".Thenexportthecharts.Thenlogbackintothenew"Datafile"insidethenewGJ2.5folder,andimportthechartfileyoujustcreated.

SpecialNotesforOSXUsersOthers,skipdownto“Installing”

ThisversionofGoravaniJyotish,2.5,runsinClassicmodeofOSX.SoyouhavetohaveSystem9installedonyourmachine,forClassicmodetooperate.Thisismostlikelythecasealready.YounolongerneedapatchforOSXwiththisversion.It'sbeenpre‐applied.

Iamworkingonthenewversion,whichisOSXnative.Iambringingitoutstill,andI'mcloserthanever(asofthiswriting).Eventuallythiswillbeoldinformation.Imayalreadybeoutwithitasyoureadthis(writtenOctober2004)OnOSX,theinstallerplacesthe“GoravaniFonts”,whichareFontsneededfortheprogramtoappearcorrectly,inanunusuallocation.ItputsthemintheFontsfolderassociatedwiththecurrentuser.OnOSX,eachuserhasanidentity,evenifyouaretheonlyuseronthecomputerandyouneverhaveto“login”,youstillhavea“user”folder.Inthisfolder,orinanyuser’sfolder,isaFontsfolder.ThisiswheretheGoravaniFontsareinstalled.Thisworks,andthefontswillbeavailableforGJtouse.Themainfontsfoldersaresomewhat“offlimits”toinstallers,andIwasn’tabletomakethatwork,soIhadtogoforthisoptioninstead.Thisparagraphisjustlettingyouknowthis.There’snothingyouneedtodoaboutthis.

PrintingonOSXBesuretologintoyourclassicversion,bootfromsystem9orjustgointoclassicmode,andseeifyoucanprintfromotherprogramsthere.Makesurethatyourprinterisvisibleinthesystem9chooser.Youmayhavetoinstallprintdrivers,orgetprintdrivers,foryourprinterforsystem9,andmakesuretheyarevisibleinthechooser,andselected,andthenmyprogramhasabetterchanceofbeingabletoprint.

InserttheCD,openit,andruntheInstallerontheCD.

ThereareacouplewindowsthatarestandardthatyouclickOKon.MuchofwhatiswrittenonthefirstwindowIrepeathere.Thesecondwindow,the“License”isforhumorpurposesmainly.ThenawindowappearsthatyoujustclickContinueon.Ifyouwanttouninstall,youcangoto“Custom”andselectthat.Butifyouareinstalling(thenormalcase),justclickContinueorInstallorGoorOK,whateverthepositivebuttoninthelowerrightcorneris.Also,whenthewindowpicturedbelowappears,it'sonlyaskingyouwheretoputthesoftware.DONOTclickthe"newfolder"button.Youdon'tneedto.Justhilitethedisk,orfolder,withinwhichyouwantittoplaceafolderitwillcreatecalledGJ2.5.

Sojusthiliteyourdisk,andafolderwithinyourdisk,andthencontinue.

AlthoughthisistheOSXversionofthewindow,thoseofyouonSystem8or9willgetasimilarwindow,andshouldheedthesameadvice.

Afterthis,itjustinstallstheprogram.Ifyougetanerror,onOSX,it’sbecauseyoudidn’tunlocktheSystemyet.ReadaboveaboutOSXforhowtohandlethat.

Attheendoftheinstallationitshouldcomeupwithadialogthatsays“Installationwassuccessful”.Thisinstallerwillputanicononyourdesktop.Justdoubleclickittostarttheprogram.It’sagreenballthatsays“GoravaniJyotish2.5”.

ActivationorDemo?Theprogramwillpresentyouwithawindowwhichchecksifyouareademouser,orsomeonewhohaspurchasedtheprogramandneedstheiractivationcode.Ifyouareviewingthedemoonly,thenclickthe“RuninDemoMode”button.Ifyouhavepurchasedtheprogramandwanttoactivateitnow,thenclickthatbutton.Youwillhavetocallore‐mailusforthecode.Readthewindowthatappearsformoreinformationonthisprocessandthebesttimesandstrategiesforactivation.

Theprevious"BackDoor"isnolongerwhereitusedtobe.Userswillhavetoaskforactivationcodes,orthenewbackdoor,andinbothcases,besuretofullystatewhoyouarewiththenameyoupurchasedtheprogramwith.Idoneedtotrytoprotectmyselffrompiratingofmyprogram.Thanksforunderstanding.

Youwillthencometothe"MainCharts"window,whichisthemainwindowoftheprogram.

Thisbuttonlistsallthecharts.IfyouhaveChartschecked,thenyougetallyourcharts,ifyouhaveFamouscheckedthenyougetallthefamouscharts,whichcantakeafewminutestoload,andextramemory.

Thislistsyourrecentlyenteredchartsorthelastgroupoffamouschartsenteredifyouhavethatfilecheckedalso.

Thisselectsorhighlightsallthechartscurrentlyinthelist.Thereareanumberofthingswhichapplytothechartshighlightedinthelist,includingdeletingandremoving,aswellascomparingforresearch.

Thisreversestheselectedlinesinthelist.Selectedlinesbecomeunselected,andunselectedlinesbecomeselected.Letssayyouhavealistofcharts,butonlywantacoupleoftheminthelist.So,selectthosefew,thenhitthisbutton,andeverythingelsewillbeselected,thenhittheRemovebuttonandthehighlighted,unwantedchartswillberemovedfromthelist.

Thisremovestheselectedlinesfromthelist.ItdoesNOTdeletethem.Itsimplyremovesthemfromthelist.Youwillstillhavetheremovedcharts‐theyjustwon’tbeinthelist.

OntheOpenChartswindow,thereisanOKbutton.Itloadsthecurrentlyhighlightedchartinthelist.It’sthesameasdoubleclickingonachartinthelist.

Thisbuttonallowsyoutomovethechartshighlightedinthelisttoadifferentfile.Forexample,youmighthighlightanumberofyourchartsandmovethemtoArchivejusttogetthemoutofyourwayiftheyareusedlessoften.Ifyouentersomenewfamouscharts,theywillinitiallygointotheChartsfile.YoumaythenhighlightthemandwiththisbuttonmovethemtotheFamousfile.

Thisstripofcontrolssimplymanipulatesthehorizontalscrollbaronsomeofthechartslists.ThecoloredcircledotsrepresenttheplanetsinorderofthedaysoftheweekstartingfromSunday.TheDescscrollsyoutothechartdescriptioncolumn,theLscrollsyoutotheLagnacolumn,whereasLordsscrollsyoutothatcolumn.
