How do I use an “eBook”?Your eBook can be read cover to cover on

your KSD laptop after you check the book out similar to using a Nook or Kindle.

You can flip through the eBook and you may read a few pages before deciding to check it out.

You can read a Mattson MackinVIA eBook from anywhere you have internet access.

MackinVIA is the source for accessing eBooks in the Kent S.D.

MackinVIA is easy to use and takes two steps to access after

you go to their homepage.

In a browser go to: http://www.mackinvia.com

1. On the MackinVIA home screen type Mattson and on the list that appears, select:

Mattson Middle School, Covington, Washington

2. Log in using the same username and password for your laptop. Once you are logged in, you will see Mattson’s MackinVIA.

Once you are logged in, you will see Mattson’s MackinVIA. One feature is the “Backpack” which has several sections:

How can I search for a book? Method #1

Type the book title in the search bar. If the book is not in the collection, you’ll get a “No Results” message.

The four sections of the Backpack are:

1. My Favorites: Titles you save to My Favorites will be listed here.

2. My Notebook: Highlights and notes taken in the MackinVIA Reader will be accessible here.

3. My Checkouts: Titles you check out will be seen here.

4. My Requests: Title your request (hold) will be listed here.

How can I search for a book? Method #2

1. Begin by clicking on the on the “Advanced Search” tab.

2. In the “Advanced Search” tab pull down menu, select the way you want to search.

3. For each of the categories, a search box appears. Type in what you are looking for.

How else can I search for a book?

Method #3

1. Begin by clicking on the on the “Categories” tab.

2. In the “Categories” tab, select the category you want to search.

3. Click on one of the listed categories to view what is available. (See sample below from “Biographies”.

What happens when I select a book?The book will open and there will be

navigation arrows and tools in the left corner which have several functions including re-sizing the text, page view, etc. Read like other any book.

What are the advantages of eBooks? There are several advantages to

MackinVIA including:

1. You can put “favorite” book choices in your backpack without checking them out by clicking “Add to Favorites”.

2. You may preview any of the 175 books without checking it out, but you may check out only one ebook at a time.

3. Your eBook will be automatically returned on their due date.

4. Your MackinVIA eBook may be enjoyed online anywhere you have internet access and can login to your backpack/account at: www.mackinvia.com
