Biography:

Mechanical Engineer, 30 year working experience on NDT, especially in the area of computed radiography (CR and DR), and in the development of projects and applications of robotic and radiography for inspection of electric power components, mainly high voltage transmission lines in operation, and gas and oil installations. Has over 10 articles published about the subject.

OBJECTIVE

Collaborate in ensuring the continuity of transmitting powerbetween local generation and consumption by evaluating the

integrity of equipment and facilities involved in the process

4

CURRENT STATE OF THE ART

SUBSTATION

• Visual inspection

• thermography

TRANSMISSION LINES (OHL)

• Visual inspection

• thermography

• Corona effect

• Deflection magnetic field

PROPOSALS IN DEVELOPMENT FOR INSPECTION OF TRANSMISSION LINES (OHL)

ROBOTIC SYSTEMS

Drones (mono or multi-rotor)

Incorporation into drones:

• Visual inspection

• Thermography

Advantages:

• Easy access and gain in productivity

• Allows inspection of large tracts

• Allows the approximation and detailed inspection of certain

points

6

LIMITATIONS

Drones:

• Rules for use of airspace in each country:

• In some countries use permitted only in uninhabited areas

• Brazil: limited use within sight of the operator

• Low flying range

• Low capacity (payload)

Visual inspection

Thermography

OUR PROPOSAL - COMPUTED RADIOGRAPHY WITH REMOTE ACCESS

OBJECTIVE: To provide a new tool that provides conclusive information that can be added to the information provided by

current techniques.

ON THE GROUND:

Inspections of substation equipment (lightning arresters, circuit breakers, gis)

AIR:

Inspections OHL:

• Positioning in hard to reach places

• Obtaining images in real time (15,0s to 2.0 min after

positioning)

• Detailed analysis by image processing software

OUR CURRENT STATE OF DEVELOPMENT

Inspection of substations

Inspection of high voltage lines (energized or not)

Note: energized lines (non-electronic system) - Interference of the magnetic field

Positioning infrastructure from the ground

Development of a robotic system for incorporation

Development of transmission of satellite imagery

Development of dynamic radiography system (continued)

CONCLUSION

New developments around the world seeking to offer new possibilities inspection that may confer greater safety in the

operation of power transmission systems are extremely

important.

Within this effort we believe that computed radiography by remote control, thanks to the quality and possibility of analysis of

information may come to occupy an important role in providing information that added those provided by other techniques, can

allow a valuable asset valuation.
