COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY The Community Food Pantry continues to give out bags every
Thursday with nutritious staples to individuals and families who live in
Winn Parish. They accomplish this task through the work of volunteers
from all over our parish. They operate solely through gifts and
donations from churches, individuals, businesses, and clubs – without
any government funds. Along with food items, they now offer eggs
donated every week from a local business, school uniforms, Christian
books and devotionals, New Testaments, homemade jellies and jams,
an opportunity to pray with a minister, and enhanced choices on the
“Lagniappe” table. Thank you for keeping this local ministry alive.

Pastor Search Committee Update What an exciting time! Our committee has completed our midpoint
meeting with our search firm and we have had more than 30 legitimate
submissions for our senior pastor. Many of the candidates have already
completed a personal survey, personality test, and phone/video
interviews and meet our church's survey criteria. We are narrowing our
search and will have a short list of qualified candidates by the end of
the month. Our process will then speed forward into February. Please
be in constant prayer that we will be guided by the Spirit to God's
appointed man for us. Thank you for your support.

A Note from Pastor Danny Keyes Many of you know I was pastor of Sardis Baptist Church for many years,
nearly 34 to be exact. It was a great ministry for Linda and I, but one thing
would bother me at times. Why did those people back in 1860 name it
Sardis? Have you read about Sardis in Revelation 3:1-6? A brief summary
concludes that the Sardis mentioned in Revelation was a dead church. Why
not name it Highway to Heaven Baptist Church, or Best Baptist Church?
Anything but Sardis, the dead church. When people speak of a dead church it
is normally a derogatory description. They are trying to say that the church
services are not as lively as they might prefer, or that the church is not
making any impact in the community. Who wants to pastor or be a member
of a dead church?
What Paul said in Galatians 2:20 has challenged me to rethink the “dead
church” idea. “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live, yet not I but
Christ lives in me.” In other words, the best kind of church is a church filled
with “dead” members. People that have met Christ, died to themselves, and
allow Christ to live in them. A body of believers who have died to sin, died
to the world, died to the old way of life. In a spiritual sense, a dead church,
filled with believers whose lives are committed to honoring Christ. This is
the kind of church that every pastor would love to pastor, every preacher
would love to preach in, and every Christian would love to belong to and
serve in. A church that is dead to the world but alive unto God.
James Calvert, a great missionary in the late 1800’s, took a small group of
dedicated followers to the Fiji Islands, which at that time was one of the most
dangerous places in the world. The captain of the ship that transported the
group told Calvert “you will lose your life and the life of all those that are
with you”. Calvert replied “we died before we came here.” If enough of us
died in the way Paul speaks of in Galatians what a difference it would make
in our personal lives and what a dramatic improvement we would see in our
church. What a great compliment it would be if FBC Winnfield had the
reputation of being that church that is dead to the world but alive to God in
Christ Jesus.

Griefshare A group of people in our church who have a passion and calling to minister
to the needs of people became the leadership team for a program called Grief
Share. The focus was on helping family and friends deal with the loss of a
loved one from a spiritual perspective. This group met faithfully and worked
diligently to make this a viable program in our community. Although the
passion and commitment of this group has not wavered, the response was not
sufficient to continue at this time. The leadership team is waiting on God to
open another door of ministry in our church and community. The leadership
team is grateful for the prayer support provided as well as those groups who
provided refreshments and other necessities for the sessions. Although Grief
Share is no longer available in our community the need is still present. If you
or someone you know needs ministry related to a loss have them contact the
church office or a pastor for help and referral to resources in our area.
