HOW PLANTS GROW?

TWO PHASES IN THE LIFE CYCLE OF A PLANT

1. VEGETATIVE STAGE- includes the growth of roots, stem and leaves.

2. REPRODUCTIVE STAGE-the development of flowers, fruits and seeds takes place.

Three essential condition for germination

Amount of moisture needed to soften the

seed coat and to help in the circulation of food which the seed contains.

Oxygen- which when moisture is absorbed, oxygen takes in and carbon dioxide is given off by the seed.

Warmth and air in the soil which are needed to germinate seeds.

HYPOCOTYL

HYPOCOTYLYS

The part of the embryo that first grows downward into the soil forms the stem of the seedling.

EPICOTYL

EPICOTYLS

The young leaves of the new plant.

DEVELOPMENT OF SEED

REPRODUCTIVE STAGEA stage in a plant life that begins with the

production of flowers and ends with the maturing of seeds. The flowers is a specialized branch of a plant designed for sexual reproduction or production of seeds.

FLOWERS Is a specialized branch of plant designed

for production of seed. It is made up of organs like sepals, stamens, pistil, petals and accessory organ for production.

ORGANS OF REPRODUCTION OF

FLOWERS

the female parts of the flowers which consist of an ovary with an upright extension.

PISTIL

STIGMA

which lies on top of the style serves as the pollen-receptive surface.

STAMENcompose the male

parts of the flower, each of which consist of a supporting filament and anther where the pollen grain is produce.

FERTILIZATION takes place when a male nucleus in the pollen tube unites with the female nucleus of the ovule through a process called POLLINATION.
