“It is highly unfortunate on the part of human race that they are unable to recognize their hiddenpotential. They are only using one out of lakh part of their capabilities and even by using this verypart, they are today counted in the list of highly sage people,” says Swami Vivekananda.

The invaluable gift Brain is given by God to us, but we are ignorant to use the capacities of thebrain effectively. Self restraint is the key to achieve strong Memory Power.

There is no limit to the power of the human mind. The more concentrated it is, the more power isbrought to bear on one point, That is the secret. You will learn from this Article to make theeffective use of your God gifted equipments.

The need of the hour is to recognize our unused and hidden capabilities. And this Article wouldprove highly beneficial for recognizing yourself. You would derive vedic and scientific sutras thathelp you a lot in achieving your lofty goals. With this Article you would get a direction that, in turn, help you to excel in every field of life.

The most preponderant power of the brain is concentration power. If you have strongconcentration power then not only temporal, you can achieve what is eternal. This power is basedupon the power of thoughts which is also called our belief system. You can make everyimpossible possible by strengthening your belief system.

The most eminent scientist Albert Einstein, was very weak in academics during his childhood. Hewas even expelled from school due to lack of verbal skills. But he made his name all over theworld by discovering the theory of relativity. He did so by learning the sutras of Indian Vedas andshastras and thus enhancing his concentration and observation power. According to our Vedas, memory is a vriti (Impression) and deeper this impression is, the stronger will be our retention.

Our brain is divided into two parts- left brain and right brain. These parts of the brain are sub-divided by a wall of fibers called as corpus callosum.

There are innumerable brain cells called neurons in our brain. We have a very complex nexus ofneuron networks.

Our Conscious and Subconscious brain

About conscious brain

· It is active every time when we are thinking, walkingand eating.

· It deals with the working of our left brain.

About Sub-conscious brain

· It is the most powerful part of the brainthat has been storing all kind of informationsince the day we were born. It even storesthe information that we are not consciouslyaware of. It works under self hypnosis.

· This brain is capable to do anything forus. We can easily call it “Alladin Ka Chirag”.

· This brain stores all the information interms of pictures.

· It is very vast repository of images.

· It has photographic memory. It can easily recall the images.

· It deals with our imagination power. The most seminal point is to nurture it.

· It can be nurtured with self hypnosis process by giving it auto instructions.

· It is the super computer of our brain.

First of all, we have need to understand, what is information? How and where our brain stores theinformation? One more question is how to locate the information. To answer the above questionslet us understand the principle of information storage in our memory. What our brain actuallymemorize, we fail to notice that.

In real words brain doesn’t memorize any information however brain generates information. Thatinformation can be in the form of words, images and music. This information is not fixed in ourbrain. It does not exist in our brain in any form not in words or images and not in the form ofelectric impulses. We can experience number of objects in our surroundings. Every object emitsphysical and chemical signals which are received by our five sense organs. Our sense organseyes and ears catch these signals.

The information which our brain stores that is in the form of connections. There is alwaysconnection among objects in the outside world. Say for example the Vehicles on the roads, fruitsin the trees. The stars always in the sky and the fish swim in the sea. All these are connectionsamong outside world. Therefore, this is concluded that our brain memorizes connections. Whenwe see a vase with the rose in it on the table, our brain memorize the connection between rose, vase and table. The brain can not memorize the images. When we see a vase, it acts upon oureyes, a connection appears and our brain generates the image of rose, vase and table. The brainis not any repository or any information store house. It can generate only connections. Theprocess of creating connections is memory. Our brain is the engine used for fixing theconnections, when the stimulus comes from outside it recalls the connection.

The three important processes occurred in the Brain.

· Encoding – process of translating info into neural codes (language) that will be retained inmemory

· Storage – the process of retaining neural coded info over time

· Retrieval – the process of recovering info from memory storage

There are also two types of Long Term Memories:-

1. Explicit Memory / Declarative Memory

2. Implicit Memory / Non Declarative Memory

Explicit Memory:- this is the memory with Conscious recall. This is again two types of memories.

1. Semantic Memory (General Knowledge)

2. Episodic Memory (Personnel Experiences)

o Semantic memory is the memory concerned with storage of facts. But the Episodic memoryrefers to autobiographical information as to where and when an event happened.

Implicit Memory is the memory without conscious recall. This is the Procedural Memoryconcerned with learned actions and skills.

· There is one more type of particular memory called Flashbulb memory- this is the memoryconcerned with the locations where we heard some thing and that is in our memory. Like wherewere you when you first heard:

o That The WTC had been crashed into?

o That the federal building had been bombed in Oklahoma City?

o That Princess Diana had been killed in a car wreck?

Anatomy of Memory

We have five important parts in the Anatomy of Memory.

Functions of Five important parts :-

Amygdala: emotional memory and memory consolidation.

Basal ganglia & cerebellum: memory for skills, habits.

Hippocampus: memory recognition, spatial, episodic memory, laying down new declarative long-term memories.

Thalamus: formation of new memories and working memories.

Cortical Areas : encoding of factual memories, storage of episodic and semantic memories, skilllearning.

Memory is a cerebrum psychic process. Psychologists explain five psychic process – memory, attention, thinking, sensation and representation. Imagination is a process of interaction betweenthinking and our representation. Memory process is responsible for the fixation of connectionsbetween different signals appearing at the same moment.

Encoding method of the Memory

This is the most important method of the memory which is used to encode the abstract data. Firstwe understand the word encoding. This is the process of converting abstract data (texts, alphabets, characters and digits) into specific language called brain language. Our brain languageis of photographic pictures. We will convert abstract words into the words which are calledSubstitution words or link words or key words also. It means we will memorize abstract wordswith the help of link words. Now, we can understand this process with the help of some examples.

Say for example we want to encode the information of names of country and its capital.

Albania is the country and the capital is Tirane.

Now, Albania is abstract word. We can convert this word Albania into tangible word Album. Wewill convert the word Tirane into the word Rain. Now in this process the word Album has samesound as the word Albania in enunciation. Similarly, the word Rain has same sound as the wordTirane in enunciation.

Similarly, the link words for the following words are :-

Angola – Luanda

Angola- link word is Gari Gola

Luanda link word is Lawn

Similarly, we can make the link word of any abstract word. We just have need to practice thisprocess.

BASIC LAW OF THE MEMORY

Law of Association:-

Association means Linking or Connection. This is the association between two information. Oneinformation is already in our Brain. Second information is in the outer world which we are tomemorize. This Law establishes the connection between these two information.

Subconscious Association:-

When we link two information subconsciously, then the Association is called SubconsciousAssociation.

Now, we will learn how to link two objects. Say, for example, there are two objects- Door andphone, then we can associate these two objects by making an imagination in which a Phone ishanging on the Door.

Applications of the Law of Association:-

1. Used in memorizing GK.

2. Used in memorizing Countries and their Capitals.

3. Used in memorizing Vocabulary

4. Used in memorizing Names of the Faces

5. Used in memorizing the qualities, facts and the hobbiesof people.

6. Used in memorizing Academics

Say for example, we want to memorize that the machine usedby blind people to read discovered by Louis Braille.

Now first we will encode this information. The word Louis Braille can easily be encoded into theword Rail (Braille). Now we can imagine a situation where we are looking a train which is movingwith full of Blind People. This visualization will help us to recall this information even after the longtime.

How it is possible to memorize English Vocabulary?

Vocabulary is nothing but the set of abstract words. All the words arenon tangible things. As we know our brain is not capable to memorizeabstract information. We have need to convert the abstract languageonto brain language. This can easily be done with the help ofencoding method then we will link the meaning of the word with theencoded word of the given word. This process is basically concernedwith the photographic memory. We have to bring clarity in ourVisualization system. We have required a great practice to master this methodology. The linkword of the given word is also called the Key word.

There are some rules for making these Key words (Algorithm).

Select one word to represent a longer thought or several subordinate thoughts.

1. Generate your own keywords.2. Construct an image between the keyword & the word to learn.3. Keyword should be linked with the image and image should be linked with the word to

learn.4. Keywords should be visualizable.5. Keywords should be interacting.

Keywords are memory links here and connected with the imaginations also.

Say for example the word we want to memorize is Persuade means to convince or to influence.

Now, we can easily encode the word Persuade into the word Purse with the help of Encodingmethod.

Now, we can imagine A Woman is being persuaded to buy a purse.

With the same method we can memorize many words of the English Language.

Say for example

1. Laborious

Meaning taking a lot of time and effort

SYN onerous, taxing

Memory Link Lab ki Bori, Labor

Imagination A Labor is lifting lots of bories, So, he is laboriousperson.

Usage a laborious task / process

1. Scurry

Meaning to run with quick short steps SYN scuttle:

Memory Link hurry, curry

Imagination You scurry in hurry for curry.

Usage She said goodbye and scurried back to work

Abominable

extremely unpleasant and causing disgust SYN appalling, disgusting:

abom·in·ably

Memory link bomb

Imagination The Bomb explosion was abominable.

Usage The judge described the attack as an abominablecrime.

Abyss

a very deep wide space or hole that seems to have no bottom

Memory link Bees KM deep

Imagination This Abyss is 20 (bees) KM deep.

Usage an abyss of ignorance / despair / loneliness

Acrophobia

Fear of height

Memory link crow

Imagination A crow engenders acrophobia to him

Usage Suffering from acrophobia.

If you want to enhance your Memory and Word Power and prepareyou for all the competitive exams effectively.

Best of Luck for your sharp Memory Power!
