Analyze Call DetailRecords (CDRs)

Telcos perform forensics on droppedcalls and poor sound quality, but calldetail records (CDRs) flow in at a rate ofmillions per second. This high volumemakes pattern recognition and root causeanalysis difficult, if not time consuming.The resulting delays can cause attritionand harm servicing margins.

Apache Flume can ingest millions ofCDRs per second into Hadoop, while

Apache Storm processes those in realtime and identifies any troublingpatterns. HDP facilitates long-term dataretention for root cause analysis, evenyears after the first issue. This CDRanalysis can be used to continuouslyimprove call quality, customersatisfaction and servicing margins.

Service EquipmentProactively

Transmission towers and their relatedconnections form the spinal cord of atelecommunications network. Failure of atransmission tower can cause servicedegradation. Replacement of equipmentis usually more expensive than repair.There exists an optimal schedule formaintenance that’s neither too early, nortoo late.

Apache Hadoop stores unstructured,

streaming sensor data from the network.Telcos can derive optimal maintenanceschedules by comparing real-timeinformation with historical data. Machinelearning algorithms can reduce bothmaintenance costs and service disruptionsby addressing potential equipment failurebefore it occurs.

Rationalize InfrastructureInvestments

Telco marketing and capacity planningare correlated. Consumption ofbandwidth and services can be out ofsync with plans for new towers andtransmission lines. This mismatchbetween infrastructure investments andthe actual return on investment can putrevenue at risk.

Network log data helps telcos understandservice consumption in a particular state,

county or neighborhood. They can thenanalyze network loads more intelligently(with data stretching over longer periodsof time) and plan infrastructureinvestments with more precisionand confidence.
