This exciting adventure story takes place in France in the

1800s. Some of the people and places in it are

real.

Edmond Dantes is a successful young seaman. There are people who hate his success.

He has a loving father and a beautiful lover, Mercedes.

On the day of Edmond’s wedding, he is taken to the prison.

He meets another prisoner, Faria, who provides Dantes with education in languages, history and many other things.

He tells Edmond about some treasure on the island of Monte Cristo.

Faria dies and Dantes takes the place of a dead man in the bag.

He escapes.

He is rescued by a smuggling ship. After several months of working with the smugglers, he gets the opportunity to go to the island of Monte Cristo. He founds the treasure.

He has a different name – a rich man’s name, the Count of Monte Cristo, buys a beautiful boat and returns home.
