GE36 engine, which was shown to cut fuel burn by around 30% compared with turbofans. The GE36 featured a turbojet core driving dual counter-rotating eight-blade propfans in a pusher configuration. The engine was tested on a Boeing 727 (one engine) and a Boeing MD-90 (both engines).

GE Passport: Fan Blisk & CMC Application
11
• Low vibration due to fan titanium blisk with friction welded blade
• CMC material usage for harsh environment parts such as the mixer and center body assemblies. In total it uses 15 CMC parts for a weight savings of more than 40 pounds per engine
• Ox-Ox CMC material used on three parts: exhaust mixer, center body and core cowls.
• Normal HPC airfoils @ 20-micron finish, appear smooth to the eye, Passport’s HPC @ 4-5 micron range surface roughness smaller than normal laminar boundary layer, smooth to the air

GE Passport: Integrated Propulsion System
13
• Low drag front end with single-piece air inlet
• Fan cowl which is structurally integrated to the engine
• Translating O-duct thrust reverser that provides improved fan flowpath while eliminating door links
• Lower bifurcation, latches and split lines • New integrated mounting system for
reduced engine distortion and enhanced on-wing performance.
• Nexcelle to introduce IPS on LEAP-X1C & C919
