IBM Systems

Architecture - Scalability 100.000’s of Copy Sets and unlimited CSM sessions

−Enterprise customers can have hundreds of thousands of volumes to consider within their business resiliency strategy

−A single CSM session can manage replication for everything from a single open systems application, a z/OS sysplex or an entire datacenter

−To drive down Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), customers need the capability to build CSM sessions in ways that are meaningful to how they run their business.

IBM Systems

CSM Server Redundancy

Standby CSM server for disaster recovery

Different Operating System platform support (Linux/Windows/AIX/zOS)

− Active and Standby CSM Server may run on different OS platforms

100% consistent view across CSM servers of managed storage

One-minute maximum to activate standby server and initiate recovery (RTO)

IBM Systems

CSM GUI: Simple Setup

1. Add Storage Device

2. Setup Paths via Wizard (optional)

− Preferred option: Specify port pairings in a properties file which are used for all replication paths upon Start of Session

3. Create Session

4. Add Copy Sets

− Box to Box

− LSS to LSS

− Volume to Volume

− CSV Import

5. Issue Start!

Add Copy Set Wizard

IBM Systems

CSM – Command Line Interface (CSMCLI) Installed with CSM on server – CSMCLI

Separate CSMCLI installer packages available for remote CSMCLI installation on various

platforms

May be used for additional automation

 Similar to DS8000 CLI

− Command structure (mk, ch, rm, ls, show)

− Help structure

− Exit Codes

 Three types of invocation

− Single-shot (Single CSMCLI command)• csmcli mksess –cptype fc mySession

− Script (Sequence of CSMCLI commands)• csmcli –script scriptfile

− Interactive (User CSMCLI session for multiple commands)• csmcli

 Password less scripts possible

− Password can be encrypted on client for password less access

12

IBM Systems

Built-In Safety Features

 User Roles

− Three access levels: Monitor, Operator, Administrator

 Site Awareness

− Protection against incorrectly reversing hardware

relationship at wrong location

 Volume Protection

− Exclude volumes from CSM sessions

Command or Action visualization and Warning Message

− Visualize action to be performed and prompt for confirmation before a command or action is executed

IBM Systems

CSM – Continuous Role Pair Status and Progress Role Pair status message

− E.g. Starting role_pair_name relationships on the hardware

Provide an estimated time to complete for the action

− Calculated and updated based on remaining out of sync capacity change rates

 Progress reporting

− Progress bar displays copy progress value in percentage

− Progress details displays GiBs or tracks remaining

− Reporting at Role Pair level and at individual pair level

− Visualized in dynamic session images

16

IBM Systems

What is new in CSM 6.1.4?

Support for standard to extent space-efficient (ESE) Peer-to-Peer Remote Copy (PPRC) relationships

Single direction support in port pairing CSV file

DSCLI shipped with Copy Services Manager on z/OS®

Ability to Setup SNMP and email notifications through the CSM GUI

 Support for Ubuntu Operating System

 Support for FlashSystem™ A9000 and A9000R

New event for SVC auto restart and auto restart failure

18

IBM Systems

Supported CSM on HMC feature without a license I/III

Define DS8000 Storage Systems in CSM and view their volume configurations:

View and Export DS8000 pokables and product switches

• This feature requires DS8880 R

8.1.1 or later

22

IBM Systems

Supported CSM on HMC feature without a license II/III Configure DS8000 Heat Map Transfer:

• This feature does not require active replication Sessions in CSM. The HMT code auto-discovers

any replication between the enabled systems.

View and manage PPRC paths of the connected systems

23

IBM Systems

Supported CSM on HMC feature without a license III/III

CSM Support for Native LDAP Client on DS8000 Enabled in CSM by default

 No cost to DS8000 customer

Software license acceptance (T&Cs) on initial CSM logon

Replaces Spectrum Control (TPC) as the LDAP provider

CSM provides the same interface as Spectrum Control (TPC)

Same DS8000 LDAP steps except now CSM is the provider

Resides on DS8000 HMC or wherever CSM is installed

LDAP provider must be configured in CSM

 Both HMCs if dual HMCs

CSM GUI support for LDAP setup is found in the Administration panel

 https://<hmc-ip>/CSM/

 csmadmin / passw0rd

24

IBM Systems

CSM Value

Common interface to manage heterogeneous IBM Storage System based copy services

Easy and reliable user interface to setup large copy services configuration

Simplify and automate complex replication tasks− Planned outage recovery

− Unplanned outage recovery

− Outage recovery testing

 Real world examples:

Task DSxxxx Command Line Interface Copy Services Manager

Set up Global Mirror 5 steps 1 command (START)

Global Mirror Recovery 4 steps 1 command (RECOVER)

Set up Metro Global Mirror 8-25 steps 1 command (START)

Make a practice copy 5 steps 1 command (FLASH)

Task SVC Command Line Interface Copy Services Manager

Set up Metro Mirror 4 steps 1 command (START)

Clean up a consistency group 3 steps 1 command (TERMINATE)

Make a practice copy 5 steps 1 command (FLASH)
