“I’m never doing that course”

A journey to 100mby Kristine Pitts

• In 2012 Michael and Kristine started their Tec diving adventure after about a year of Kristine claiming “I’m never doing Tec”.

• 3 years and a lot of Tec courses later the journey culminated in a 100m dive in a Norwegian fjord.

• What follows is some photos that go some way to describe what the journey was like.

• We started this journey just the two of us, and were lucky enough to meet some fantastic people and make some great friends along the way.

It started in Egypt in February 2012

• It was fun. But that’s it, I’m not interested in going any deeper. I’m not doing any more Tec courses.

Then later that year, we visited Scapa Flow… Wow. Simply. Wow.

Want to be able to spend more time down there.

So the following year we were

back in the Red Sea for more.

Tec 45 and Tec 50 all in one trip.

More tanks, more deco, deeper dives. Crazy, right?

At times it was hard work

4 tanks? Totally crazy.

• But then that was it. No more Tec courses. 50 m is deep enough.

• Just want to enjoy diving now. So we did…

The water wasn’t always clear blue and warm. Sometimes it was dark and cold.

Addictive all the same

So in late 2013, this intrepid gang went to Croatia for Tec 65.

Video from Tec 65 in Croatia. Play it.

Trust me, you want to. :-)

We did some impressive snorkels. Alex nearly died laughing.

It’s on. We’re going for tripple

figures.

Unfortunately after Croatia, Steve moved on to the dark side. So then there were three.

We practised a lot

Like, really, a lot.

There were crazy amounts of tanks.

Not kidding. Really crazy amounts of tanks

too many…

Sometimes the tanks were bigger than Sev!

There were also a lot of theory.

Sometimes it was really tiring…

But we had so much fun along the way.

Do you think we have enough gear and food???

Arrival at Gulen Dive Resort

Not your average dive site

Here lies a wreckat ca.

20m - 72m

After the Qualifying Dive for Tec Trimix :-)

Ready for 100 meters

• Sorry, no photos or videos of the dives. Apparently most camera equipment won't work that deep…

• It was deep, dark and cold. The dive site was the ‘house reef’ of Gulen Dive Resort. Once upon a time the fjord was carved out by a glacier. So the bottom was mostly rocks.

• But we were not there for the scenery and only spent about a minute at the bottom.

100m done!!!!!! Yay team.

Proof!!

• We had a fantastic journey, and along the way we learned a lot about diving that we now apply to recreational diving and to the teaching that we do.

• We made some fantastic friends. Tec diving is no longer about just you and your buddy. It’s about the team. Having a team of divers that you trust and that you enjoy hanging out with is important.

• If you told me 4 years ago that I would have completed this journey, I’d have thought you crazy. But here we are. It’s been a blast. :-)

• If you want to find out more about Tec diving and Tec courses, get in touch with Diving Leisure London.

• Or come talk to us at Clubnight the first Thursday of the month.
