Tulsa Chapter
“Honesty and transparency make you vulnerable. Be honest and transparent anyway.” – Mother Teresa
In the true spirit of transparency, the Tulsa Chapter will be publishing information regarding our annual budget, including last year’s budget and actual spending, and this year’s proposed budget. We hope that, by promoting full disclosure, we will also provide a learning oppor-tunity for those interested in volunteering for future chapter leadership positions. Infor-mation regarding previous and current year finances can be found on our chapter website under Members Only. I would be happy to answer any questions or concerns regarding these reports.
Is your IIA profile information up to date? We send out updates to members, as well as requests for feedback on various events, using the information associated with your IIA pro-file. You can log into your account through the www.theiia.org website. Please make sure your contact information, especially email addresses, are current so that you don’t miss important chapter communi-cations.
Please pre-register for monthly meetings, and be sure to sign-in when you arrive. Our recent meetings filled up lots of seats (which is wonderful!), but far more than we’ve had RSVP prior to the events. While I’m glad we have more people coming, this does cause some issues with not having enough seats for members that registered before-hand. Also, at the meeting, be sure to sign in before being seated, even if you are using pre-paid tickets. We earn Chapter Achievement Program points for each person that attends, and we want to make sure we have an accurate count.
Hope to see you for the November 13th meeting with the General Auditor and Chief Audit Executive at Quiktrip, Kent Warkentin, as he provides his insight into their home-grown ERM program, with his presentation of “ERM for Dummies.”

ERM for Dummies One Man’s Journey to Implement ERM
_______________________ Kent Warkentin, QuikTrip General Auditor and Chief Audit Executive
The Tulsa Chapter will only be accepting checks and credit cards as a method of payment for the
upcoming monthly meetings and seminars.
Kent Warkentin, CPA, CIA, began his career evaluating enterprise risks from the seat of a combine cutting wheat in western Oklahoma and the central U.S. in the early ‘90s. That summer job taken while attending Oklahoma State University provided many opportunities to experience the power of unmitigated risks (weather, primarily) and to work through risk identification, evaluation and miti-gation. For example, while hauling a 14’ wide combine down the road on a trailer behind a Mack truck, Kent often had to evaluate the risk of navigating a narrow bridge with oncoming traffic when both wouldn’t fit. Typically the mitigation was to floor the Mack and move into the middle of the road and allow the much smaller opposition to decide whether to stop or get run over (he only remembers the other vehicles choosing to get run off the road a “few” times). Since graduating from Oklahoma State Univer-sity, Kent has spent a combined 20 years work-ing in external audit, public-company financial reporting, and internal audit. He is currently the General Auditor at QuikTrip Corporation, where he has worked for the past nine years. He is uniquely qualified to speak on Enterprise Risk Management (“ERM”) for Dummies as he considered himself an ERM “dummy” when he was tasked by the QuikTrip Audit Committee with implementing ERM while having little background or formal train-ing. However, over the last two years Kent has become less of an ERM dummy by spending significant time researching and developing an ERM framework for QuikTrip and by leading their initial ERM implementation. Outside of work, Kent stays busy enjoying family activities with his wife, Jami, and their two children, Trey and Hallye. He also enjoys bass fishing, working on and drag racing his 1965 GTO, and volunteering at his church, with the Tulsa Area United Way, and with the Boy Scouts of America.

Whole BrainÒ Thinking and Fat-Free Gracewriting
Graceworks will be presenting two different workshops for 8 total hours of CPE.
Whole Brain® Strategies to Communicate with People Who Don't Think Like You Are there people in your world that drive you crazy? Would you like to be able to better connect and un-derstand your colleagues, boards, clients - even your family? Then think and communicate with your WHOLE brain! Communicating can be challenging for all of us. And, just as we have a dominant eye and hand, we also have a dominant way of thinking, which influences how we like to communicate and be communicated with. Different communication styles also have a lot to do with why those other peo-ple drive us crazy. In this fun, highly interactive workshop, we'll explore how to communicate with your "Whole Brain®" and craft "Whole –Brained" messages. You'll gain an awareness of how you like to think and communicate, and even more importantly, understand and appreciate how others think and communicate! You'll find that Whole Brain® thinking will improve your leadership and communication skills at work, at home, and everywhere in-between!
Gracewriting: Words with Power and Grace Wimpy writing just doesn't get results! Gracewriting® teaches you to write with power by being clear, concise and correct. We help you write with grace by putting your reader's needs first. In today's lightning-fast business environment, no one has time to read wordy emails, letters or reports. It's just good business to write succinctly and correctly, creating energized documents that connect with the reader. Our workshop involves a lot more than putting pen to paper. We play games. We compete. We make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! What does that have to do with better writing? Everything! Be ready to be big and bold as you experience Gracewriting®.
