TeachingcopyrightsarenowpartofthenewcurriculuminFinlandwiththefocusonunderstandingandcomplyingthebasicsofcopyrights• In2014FinnishNationalBoardofEducationpublishedtheFinnishCoreCurriculumforBasicEducationandayearlaterFinnishCoreCurriculumforGeneralUpperSecondarySchools.• Finnish educationproviders– mainlycommunes–wereinvitedtodesignlocalcurriculumswithinthe givenCoreCurriculumframework.• Thenewlocalcurriculumwasimplementedstartingfromtheschoolyear2016-2017.

Startingpoints“Provisions on the number and eligibility of teaching staff, safetyand occupational health and safety, use of personal data,openness, protection of privacy and copyrights, and theregulations that apply to the checking of criminal backgrounds ofpersons working with children are also taken into account in theprovision of education.”

Languageuseassupportforalllearning:• Digitaltoolsareusedinteachingandlearningtoguidethepupilstosearchforinformationwithinthefieldofknowledgeandassesstheirlearninginrelationtotheobjectivesofinstruction.Thepupilsareguidedactingethically,respectingcopyrightsandintegrity.

• Since80’theFinnishMinistryofEducationhasnegotiatedwithTuotos ryandwithKopiosto ry licencesforeducationaluse.• TheselicencescovertheeverydayneedsofalltheFinnishcomprehensiveanduppersecondaryschools,vocationalinstitutionsandpartlyUniversitiesandUniversitiesofappliedscience.• ThelicencealsocoversmaterialsforFinnishBaccalaureateexams.• Thevalueofthelicencehasbeenestimatedtoapproximately14millioneurosannually.• WiththeKopiosto DigitalLicence,thestaffandstudentsofeducationalinstitutionshavethepermissiontoscanprintedpublicationsandcancopytextandimagesfromopenwebsites.
