Creating a Fun Shaped Zipper Bag
These instructions start with Creating the separate layers of the bag design, while talking
about how they will come together. After they have been created, there are instructions that
refer to the Step Number that part was created in, so we can layer our individual designs in
the correct order to make our bag. Like making a Sandwich!
Keep a pen and paper close to take note of your colors and what part of the design that stitch is. When you start to
combine all the layers for a stitch out the color is extremely helpful. *I have put color suggestions for you to use.
STEPS:
1. Choose your shape. Make it a “straight stitch” line and save. (if using vinyl Lengthen stitch) *RED
2. While shape is still onscreen, change it to “over-cast like” decorative stitch and save. *PINK
a. Change that shape to a “No-Sew” line (guiding the next step)
3. Atkinson 14” Zippers are 1” wide. Create zipper placement stitch. 3 Straight lines ½” apart. Save. (1” Grid in
settings is helpful) *This is the first one to stitch out. *PURPLE
4. While this is still onscreen, change to a “no-sew” line and now we need a zipper tack-down. About 5/8” apart. Be
sure it is a “Straight Stitch” save. *ORANGE
a. Change to a decorative stitch, change color and save. *BLUE This one will top-stitch the fabric on zipper.
5. Fabric Placement: put fold on zipper center. Plan on your fabric being folded wrong side together for above and
below the zipper. I skipped creating an extra stitch for this and just did a “Fabric Tack-Down” just outside of the
entire shape of zipper pouch SAVE. *TEAL
6. Background fill stitch, *MAGENTA (pour with the bucket) in the spaces above and below your zipper. This is the
stage you would add any extra designs or fonts to the front of your bag(WHEN LAYERING DESIGNS).
7. NOTE: EACH TIME YOU CREATE A STITCH LINE AND SAVE, CHANGE THAT STITCH TO A “NO-SEW” AND
CONTINUE. This is how we are sure things will line up where they need to in the end.
8. Open your Zipper 1/2-2/3 way and place backing fabric right side down, tape in place and stitch that finishing
line you created at the beginning.
Combining the designs to save as one embroidery bag file. (making the sandwich)
Hoop Stabilizer tear-away or poly-mesh (poly-mesh will need to be cut for zipper to open)
Hint: USE EMBROIDERY TAPE for holding zipper in place and fabric, when the time comes.
Go to HOME, EMBROIDERY and pull from the “Memory Pocket” “SET” “ADD” in the order I will list below.
Purple (zipper placement from step 3)
Orange (zipper tack-down from step 4)
Teal (Fabric tack-down from step 5)
Blue (Fabric top-stitch from step 4A)
Magenta (Fill stitches from step 6)
Black (Fonts you choose…)
OPEN YOUR ZIPPER
Red (outline to sew backing fabric right side down from step 1)
Pink (Decorative over-cast like outline from step 2)
SAVE TO MEMORY This is your Complete Bag Embroidery Design
