It is great news and reason to be happy for us to be able to saythat we continue growing despite the crisis in which we areimmersed. This year, the group will grow by about 15% and wewill return to a turnover volume similar to what existed before thecrisis.

For this reason, and thanks to the trust you have placed in us,we would like to give our most sincere appreciation to ourcustomers and main partners.

Having considered the reduced activity from the crisis as anopportunity allowed us to focus intensively on research anddevelopment, this is making it possible for us to survive the crisisbetter than many of our competitors. The main results of thisphilosophy have been the launch of the Irizar i6 model and thedevelopment of the integral coach range.

Just as at the end of the last century and at the beginning of thisone, Irizar took the important step from being a local coachmanufacturer to a global one, allowing us to generate more valuefor the group and society, in the last five years we have takenanother step that was even bigger: the development and launchof our range of integral vehicles, which will help us become areference amongst European coach brands. We have alreadylaunched this activity in Europe with four distributors for the UnitedKingdom, France, Holland and Poland markets.

As a result of our clear corporate social responsibility andsustainability policy, we have started a project to develop anelectric bus for urban use, leading a powerful consortium alongwith other companies, technological centres and end users. Webelieve that this segment can contribute growth to the group inthe near future.

In recent years, we have also defined industrial diversification tobe strategic for strengthening the group. The first step was the

    We keep growing

acquisition of Jema, a highly technological European referencein power electronics with strong growth in 2010.

In 2011, we joined the I&T communications company, whichfocuses on operations assistance communication systems forthe railway sector and the transport industry in general. We havealso strengthened the group with the creation of Jema Electrónicato address the group's electronic systems needs.

We are convinced that this is the right path for reinforcing ourselvesin light of the uncertainty in a setting that is increasingly complex, which makes us view the future with prudent optimism.

To conclude, we would like to reiterate the importance we giveto close customer relationships so as to provide the service theyexpect in all our group's activities as a key part of our development, growth and contribution to our surroundings and society.

    Landing in France

Delivery of the first units in France

The first integral units are alreadytravelling on French roadways.

These are two 13 m coaches, 3.5 mhigh, with 57 seats. The coacheshave DAF MX 340 E5 engines (460CV), and a robotic ZF 12AS2700 BOASTRONIC gearbox.

The customers have praised theadvantages that these vehicles offerin terms of safety and reliability. Oneof them, Vicent Bonneau of TransportsBonneu, agreed to answer some ofour questions:

What led you to buy an integratedversion Irizar coach?

At its presentation in Madrid, I wasimmediately attracted to the I6 andthe I4. The combination of IRIZAR’sdesign with an integrated version forme is an extra guarantee of comfort, consistency, lower weight andtherefore less fuel consumption. Also, the good reviews of the quality of themanufacture of the whole unitconvinced me.

    So, why the i6?

Our activity requires tourist coachesthat enhance our business and theexperience of the customer beingtransported. The design of the I6 andits clean interiors help to convey animage of quality.

Did you already know Irizar? Whatis your opinion of the company?

I already knew IRIZAR through twomodels: the Century and the PB.

What do you like most about thiscoach?

Its comfort and its innovative features(TNT, WIFI)

Any negative aspects? Pleasecomment on any issues.

Well, really these are fairly insignificantdetails:• The footrests: Small people can’t

use them (a better option would bemulti-position foot-rests). There areno footrests in the front seats andbehind the toilets (maybe havesmaller openings at foot level)

    • The vacuum cleaner hose is tooshort.

    • The opening of the "toilet" technicalarea with the square key,

    • A handle would be more practical.• No carpet on the stairs.• The floor temperature at the rear

of the vehicle (transmission of heatbetween the engine and the cabinfloor)

What would you ask Irizar to includein the coach do if you were a memberof the working group on thedevelopment of the new coachmodel?

Slightly less starting incline on the PBseats. An external camera

Have you already worked with thenew coach?

We received our new I6 on 17 June2011 and we’ve already done a fewtourist runs with it: Portugal, Lourdes, the Tyrol and several trips to Spainand I have to say that the vehicle’sperformance is very safe andsatisfactory in all types of roadsencountered.

After listing general information about the Irizar Group, theauthor says: “Other advantages that Irizar has include itsextensive experience accumulated over many years, and itscollaboration with numerous chassis manufacturers, the companyis extremely familiar with the needs of each market. This minimisesthe risk of offering a bus in Germany without knowing the market. For this reason, OMNIBUSREVUE has decided to subject theIrizar i6 to a very strict test. The simple act of showing updemonstrates a difference from other manufacturers, who werenot even able to present a bus which met the test's standards, which disqualified them immediately. Irizar is taking this veryseriously.”

    Irizar is serious

The article addresses the coach's positive and negative aspectsone by one with the aim of answering the question as to whetherit is worthy of being included in the Business Class category.

The German magazine points out that it is the product of a wellthought-out construction since it offers the possibility ofcombining axle, transmission and engine components as desired."The Irizar i6," the author continues, "appears to be pleasantand well-proportioned. The front has the design that characterisesIrizar coaches, but it includes a number of innovations, such as

standard daytime headlamps and dipped headlights. This is animportant detail that makes coaches safer." When discussingthe electric door, the article highlights their precision andefficiency, and concludes that the interior is well-lit and inviting, with materials that appear to be solid and resistant. The driver'sposition is defined as comfortable, spacious and very modern, although it notes the difficulty for novice drivers due to the largenumber of switches.

We do not want to ignore those aspects that Omnibusrevue'scritics were not fond of, which Irizar has already started to workon, since all of them can be improved. For example, the windscreenreflections, the armrest finish, the guide's seat in terms of tightnessor uncomfortableness, or the position of the tachograph, whichis partially hidden by the steering wheel and the retarder lever.

    The journey begins

"The Irizar i6, he assures, "is very easy to drive. The centre ofgravity is not too low and the axles that have been used performvery well... The Irizar integral showed no weaknesses at theADAC Club testing area. Quite the opposite: in tests such asthe braking distance measurement, it left the competition behindwith a very short braking distance."

And since a coach is driven during the day and at night, themagazine asks: How does the Irizar i6 perform in this area?

"The Irizar i6 is veryeasy to drive. Thecentre of gravity is nottoo low and the axlesthat have been usedperform very well”

Answer: Very well, because the Xenon headlamps light the areain front of the vehicle optimally."

"In summary," the article concludes, "the Irizar i6 is a goodvehicle and does its job. Although this coach is not as exoticas one might expect, all the experience of well-known suppliersand the knowledge of a builder which for many years has knownhow to address customer requirements are concentrated inthis vehicle. Precisely for this reason it would be a shame forIrizar buses to only travel around southwestern Europe."

The German magazine concludes: “in our opinion: Irizardeserves all of our respect for showing up at the toughestmarket, the German market, with its Irizar i6. We can predictthat it is going to earn all the respect of this market, since wecan testify to its great potential. All of the deficiencies that wehave found can be overcome with little effort. We especiallyliked the combination of the power train, which leads to smoothand safe driving. In the Irizar i6, one does not fine excessiveinnovations, but it is a very reliable coach and transmitsconfidence to us.”.

Positive reviews from the trade press

The British sector-specific magazines, Bus & Coach Buyer andRoute-One, do a detailed analysis of the elements that contributeto the comfort and reliability of the coach, and conclude thatthe “i6 has an elegant look, an attractive and modern style anddesign that gets your attention. Irizar UK has a promisingfuture.”

Two other Polish publications report on the advent of the integrali6. AUTOBUSY stresses the lightness of the structure and thegood performance of the Astronic power train. Trakeer BUS,for its part, offers the results of the tests performed jointly withthe Polytechnic University of Krakow, which were intended toestablish the levels of fuel consumption and noise, the recoverycapacity in gear and the degree of comfort of the coach.

The arrival of the Irizar i6 and the concept of the integral coach in Europe has not goneunnoticed by the media. The trade press from different European countries evaluatethe launch and the technical characteristics.

“We are going to increase the share of coachesin French travel”

The work of the National Passenger Transport Federation in France is based on threemain pillars: safety, environmental protection, and the vindication of the professionof bus driver. The imposition of certain standards, like driving time, the length of the vehicles orfleet renewal, the driver training programs and user awareness-raising campaigns, experimentation with cleaner and cleaner fuels or the use of renewable energies andthe improvement of the working conditions of the more than 45,000 drivers in chargeof transporting 3 million passengers, including two and a half million schoolchildren, are some of the tasks that the FNTV is in charge of. Eric Ritter, its Secretary General, talks about some of these issues in this interview.

MR. ERIC RITTER, SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE FNTV – NATIONAL PASSENGER TRANSPORT FEDERATION

  • PAGE 25

We seek solutions on the road, to fostera mode of transportation that is moreauthentic, safer and more economical thanprivate cars.”

What are the most important aspects currently beingpromoted by the National Federation of PassengerTransport?

It is necessary to expand the range of transport servicesproposed to our citizens. The objective is clearly to transferthe individual car method to coaches. There are financialarguments in favour of this: individual cars are increasinglymore expensive for families, although they may not be awareof this. These cars cause many traffic jams, which are a sourceof contamination. There are two reasons for applying in Francethe solutions that have been adopted in other countries infavour of coaches, offering a high level of service quality thatis noted by travellers. Specifically, I'm thinking about Spain, which has finally been able to address the problem of combiningboth after a long period of time.

Would you summarise the general lines that will markyour future actions within the Federation?

We have kept cabotage open to international lines for thesame reasons--in order to be slightly more economical, evenin the express road lines that I mentioned earlier. We are goingto continue developing new road solutions, in the strictest lineof our communication in favour of a transportation methodthat is more suitable, safe, and economic than individual cars, and in some cases, even more effective and flexible than trains.

Do you believe that the bus and coach transport servicein Europe is sufficient?

Certainly not. We are in light of a definition of the offer--regionalcollectives and the Government determine the transportationoffering, with the support of operators. It is unlikely that wewill pass directly to a definition of the demand, which originatesfrom traveller customers, but we are going to logically increasethe involvement of coaches in travel, similar to what is donewith high service level buses that supplement trams very well,as has been verified in Nantes (the first city to have reintroducedtrams in France).

    INTERVIEW WITH

  • How would you describe the evolution in recent years? Is it possible to progress? What improvements have beenmade recently?

After investing strongly in regional express trains, Frenchregions strive to better define the economic area in whicheach method belongs. The coach's turn will come, and thiscan be seen with the development of road networks drivennot only by the regions, but also by the departments. This

clearly forces us to consider the question of coordinated publicpolicies for transportation. The reformed regional collectivesprovide the elements to the response.

Access to cities continues to be poorly addressed in France, especially the use of dedicated voices, although we're startingto see progress. I believe that several departments are movingin this direction with astute solutions that also have an impacton vehicle characteristics. Coaches evolve; their image is farbelow what it should be, considering the evolution of the materialsand services undertaken. On-board comfort and multi-modalinformation are two signs of progress we have seen so far.

Significant efforts towards improving road conditions inFrance have been made. Do you believe that the qualityof our roads and motorways is in line with the number ofvehicles that circulate daily?

“The coaches’ turn will be driven by theregions, but also the departments”

    INTERVIEW WITH

Infrastructures cannot be infinitely multiplied. There are physicaland economic limits to both roads and railways. As far as thebudgets available in European countries, this is the time foroptimisation. However, let me point out that France has astrong level of road and railway infrastructures that allow foradditional coaches to circulate. In this regard, we are workingwith our road partners.

What is the status of the industry in France?

France and Germany are in a good position in terms of coachfleets. There are new measures that favour greater safety andimproved vehicle accessibility. France will soon implement aninitiative aimed at moving to the next level, which will likelyhave multiple effects, so that coaches may evolve. Industriallocations in France will be welcome in this regard, in thedefinition of the “Great Loan.” It will also be responsible forthe environmental and technological plan.

Lastly, how do you see the future of bus and coachmanufacturers? What is your opinion about the strategiclines that should be followed in developing new products?

I wouldn't step into the industrial role. I would simply highlighttwo needs: to recover passenger expectations, and to integratethe “service” dimension ahead of costly technical solutions. To rely on R&D in order to remain ahead, based on the beliefthat coaches will evolve in the next ten years.

“Infrastructures cannot be infinitely multiplied. Thereare physical and economic limits to both roads andrailways”

  • The actions carried out by IRIZAR have earned the recognitionof IHOBE, a Public Environmental Management Corporationin the Basque Country, which has recognised them asinnovative and effective.

The installation of an innovative technology in its paintingbooths has allowed IRIZAR to reduce natural gasconsumption in the drying furnaces by 38% while preventingthe emission of more than 600 tons of greenhouse gases.

IRIZAR is a leading coach manufacturing organisation anda pioneer in combining industrial development withenvironmental awareness. It promotes a corporate policythat is in constant search for alternatives that are increasinglyenvironmentally friendly and sustainability, both in the designof its products as well as in production processes, andpromoting this spirit of environmental awareness amongstthe people within its organisation as well as customers.

As a result, IRIZAR has decided to focus on its coachpainting process (since it entails a significant amount ofnatural gas consumption) by optimising this process withinnovative technology that allows it to be much more efficient.

The technology consists of an air duct system with a directburner (air duct) in which the flame produced by natural gascombustion directly heats the air in the booth. In this system, the resulting combustion gases in the furnace are mixedwith the air to be heated, which achieves two importanteffects: it improves the efficiency of the drying phase bysignificantly reducing natural gas consumption, and it alsoprevents the generation of the corresponding CO2 emissions.

This innovative system has been progressively incorporatedin all the painting booths at the Ormaiztegi plant where it ispossible, for a total of 18 booths, allowing for a 38% annualsavings of the natural gas associated to the drying process. This translates into an annual reduction of 620 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

With this change in its painting process, IRIZAR consolidatesits commitment towards being the most efficient and it joinscountless organisations in the CAPV that have seen how byapplying eco-efficient actions, they are able to be moreefficient in their consumption of raw materials and CO2emissions, which translates into greater economic andenvironmental efficiency that allows them to be morecompetitive and responsible with the environment.

With these actions, IRIZAR once again shows the solidity ofits commitment towards improving its surroundings andcontributing to the fight against climate change, as well asits financial efforts and those of the people within theorganisation in order for this to become a reality.
